Missing the summertime beaches but unable to getaway from winter in Korea I'm interested in hitting the indoor pools around the country on my travels, from Jeju to Busan to Jeonju and Gangwondo.

Where and how are the indoor swimming pools outside of Seoul? Give directions to help out those who wanna go. Hours, facilities, whatever info you care to add. Descriptions would be nice.

Where are the big, deep, diving, uncrowded indoor pools? Maybe in some of the smaller cities.

For a nation that just waddles at the beach in the summertime instead of actually swimming it's funny that at the indoor pools swimming laps is just about all that's done.

Using the search function I found these related threads, all about Seoul only, near subway stations actually:

"Swimming in Hongdae": http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=94857&highlight=indoor+swimming+pool
(mentions the Olympic pool near Jamsil, the World Cup stadium on the Itaewon line, and Noksapyeong station... but no details on any of them)

"Indoor swimming pools in Seoul?": http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=96362&highlight=indoor+swimming+pool
(close to Seollung Station, near Omokyo Station)

"Pool (Swimming) Hopping in Seoul?": http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=86056&highlight=indoor+swimming+pool
(Olympic park)

"swimming in seoul": http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=43214&highlight=indoor+swimming+pool
(Omokgyo Stn. (line 5), near(ish) Balsan station. Lotte World)

"where can i find a swimming pool in Seoul????": http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=28005&highlight=indoor+swimming+pool
(next to Sillim station, in Mokdong, very close to Carrefour)

yes, but finding a pool that's not full of talking ajumas, or idiots trying butterfly strokes ... that's the key!

try finding a pool over 20 metres where you can actually do laps unhindered.

i'm near sadang ... so if anyone knows a pool that doesn't require me yelling at old ladies, i'd be enormously grateful.

Very Happy

Suwon World Cup stadium has an awesome pool. One side is a deep cold pool where you can get your Scuba license. It has another warm lap pool right next door.

As for gum cracking, noisy, staring ajumma's ..... well nothing can be done about that.

Are you somewhere around Samcheonpo? There is a pretty decent pool in Goseong, which is about half way to tong yong. It didn't look very crowded when I saw it ( except for the shallow kiddie pool ), but that may depend on when you go. It's in a new building behind the Stadium.

Gwangju (Jeollanam-do)

There's a pool in the basement of the Hami Cinema complex, behind Jeonnam Uni. Only had a quick look, seemed clean enough, if a bit on the small side.

There's also a pool at the World Cup Stadium, but haven't been there yet so can't comment on it.

There's a pool in the basement of the 'Student Education and Culture Hall' in the May 18 Memorial Park. The nearest main bus stop is outside City Hall, which is kind of diagonally opposite the park - 5 mins walk.
W3,500
Mon/Wed/Fri 06:00-15:50
Tues/Thurs/Sat 06:00-20:50
Sun 09:00 - 18:50
I think it shuts for lunch 12:00-13:00 everyday, but not sure about this.
Decent size, 6 (8?) lanes, but no deep areas, only 120cm deep throughout.

Jeollabuk-do
Jeongeup - there's a pool in the basement of the YMCA complex. A bit dimly lit, but otherwise fine. Same depth throughout.

Gochang - the pool is out at the sports stadium, about 35 mins walk out of town. Excellent condition, maybe 3-4 yrs old, although shallow, 120cms throughout.

THANK YOU! I read this post yesterday and went there today and had a very pleasant sunday. It's a 6-lane 25m-long pool with some nice gym equipment on the mezzanine level. It cost three thou and change, would cost 50 thou for a month pass I hear from the nice Korean guy working there who lived in Kansas City for a year before so his English is decent enough.

Before going to the pool in Goseong I walked around the park on the hill of the southside of town and it was great, excellent view of islands and coastline from the top, with fourteen dumbbells and bench press and other exercise equipment on top of the park too. Had lunch in town. Liked the astroturf green soccer field, got teary eyed as the ambience was like back home, a game was on, and the field was soooo green, artificial but seemed like real grass as a spectator.

I am now a swimming tourist. Wink Or indoor pool traveller.

I'm headed to Jeju. Any pool recommendations there?

(Summer is so much easier: beaches on every coast to swim at)

You're welcome.
That Namsan park is a very nice park. You know, from the top, you can follow the path down to the bay and then circle back to town using the bayfront road. Its a great hike, taking about 90 min. from the park entrance to circle back to town.
