I'm looking for a love motel for my stay in Seoul from the 29 of Dec. - 2nd of Jan. I'm worried good ones will be booked. I've called the lexy, jelly and a couple others and they were booked full. Any advice on love motels, where to go how to find them (i.e. website or phone number) and if they will be booked would be appreciated. I'm not from Seoul so keep that in mind. Thanks for your help! |

Seoul is a pretty big city -- did you have an area in mind?
I'm not from Seoul either but I've had occasion to stay there a few times a year for years. Finding a decent motel has never been a concern. Every neighborhood has a motel district -- if its not obvious just ask restaurant or bar staff. Then you'll be on a street looking at a bunch of them. The newest-looking building will generally have the nicest rooms. Conveniences & rates are pretty much standardized. Availability wont be an issue.
Dont worry. |

Insadong is where I'd really like to stay. But if it makes a big difference in price v. quality (a.k.a. clean) I'd settle for something decent in Sinchon. How much should I expect to spend over new years? I've heard the rates get jacked up for the holidays.
Thanks! |

Regular yeogwans are 25,000-35,000 a night in Seoul. All you have to do is go to your preferred area and walk around. That being said, if you go to Hondae for instance, you won't find a ton of yeogwans on the street. The hotels are higher priced in that area, but they aren't typical yeogwans. You will have to search outside the main area. My advice is to find a good yeogwan, even with the help of a taxi driver, and even if it's not close, it will only cost you a small amount to take a taxi there when you need to sleep.
I don't know about holiday yeogwan rates. |

I stayed at a love motel in the Insadong area back in November of 2000, with the price coming out at about 30,000 Won per night. I believe the name was Inseong Yeogwan?
If you're standing at Jongno-gu with Tapgol Park on your right and Kumkang on your left just head in the direction of Insadong, take the very first alleyway on your left, and follow it down until you see the motel on your right. You should (I think?) pass by the back of a jewelry shop, but if you reach an ice cream shop you've gone too far.
According to my 2001 LP Guide there's also a YMCA in the area (more expensive and likely booked), as well as Jongno Yeogwan, Taewon Yeogwan, and Wongap Yeogwan. The YMCA is still there but I don't know about any of the others. I don't have a scanner, but feel free to PM me if you want a photo shot of the relevant pages from my guide. |

You seriously think you're going to have trouble finding a love motel with a vacancy?
I've never had a problem on a 15 minute notice . . . |
