I ticked "other". My next planned vacation is Canada (Canuckistan) & the US (Seppistan). I've already 'done' Asia (including part of India) & Siberia / eastern Russia. But Europe, Africa, & Central & South America, are also attractive. Maybe 2009/10?
My last trip was China, Mongolia, eastern Russia, & home to Australia, then back to Korea. |

That is just crazy insane. I don't even think you can do that because you drive on the right in Thailand but that's not true of some of the other countries where you'd be going. Laos? Your truck must be a 4x4 with some off roading capability. Seriously, I doubt if they would even let you in and out of those countries like that even if you were well prepared. Dangerous is a definate understatement! |

You could easily spend a few months in Thailand and still not do everything. There are so many parks, beaches, shows, temples, historical places, shopping centers, great restaurants, boat cruises, tourist activities like riding horses (on the beach, in mountains...), being with hill tribes and white water rafting or rock climbing. Basically, there's something for everyone in Thailand. And the weather is always superb in Thailand. It can't be beat.
But I'd also definately take a trip to the Middle East, especially Dubai, Oman and Egypt.
I'd stay away from the Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and most of Malaysia. Why? Because they can be very dangerous and extremely boring. Singapore is really nice but the cost of hotels is outrageous and the quality is the worst I've ever seen in my life. A cheap bug infested, prostitute ridden dump in a decent area will run you about $100 US dollars per night. Want something that costs less? Think of either sleeping with 15 strangers in a dorm room or be prepared to see the worst of the worst in some dump that will leave you with nightmares forever. The activities there are cool and cheap though. |

Thailand is left hand drive. The others are right hand drive.

As the previous poster pointed out, they drive on the left in Thailand. They switch over at the border. At Poipet, the transition seems to be a little random. The Friendship Bridge between Laos and Thailand has organized lanes that cross over.

About the only really bad stretch of main road that I know of is from Poipet to Siem Reap in Cambodia. Elsewhere, the roads range from bad to excellent. Laos had some very nice, recently repaved roads.
The countries themselves aren't really dangerous. But driving would be a nightmare. They make Koreans look downright civilized. |

My truck is 4x4 (high off the ground) and it's no problem driving into Lao you just have to pay for your cars visa and get short time Lao insurance. Don't know about Vietnam or Khamers actually but I think it would be possible as the Thais have organized rallies though these countries. Maybe I could join one if the timing was right. I've driven in Thailand for many years and feel it safer than Korea. Thais have finesse while driving unlike Koreans. I saw a traffic jam in front of the supermarket the other day just because one driver couldn't get through a space w/ a foot on each side... ...never happen in Thailand.

In a heartbeat. |
