With the new visa regulations in place, will it still be possible to come to ROK without contract and secure employment/ E2 visa? I will have all documents in order, including an apostilled FBI CBC (with an 8 year old DUI). My concern is over the consulate interview and whether or not Visa runs to Japan will still be possible. Flying back to US for visa would be nuts. |

You still require your interview at the Embassy of Korea in your country. |

I think how all this is going to work in practice is theoretical until people actually come over and try it. I suppose Immigration and schools could be so silly as to send someone home who is already here and ready to begin work, but perhaps they will make exceptions for people already here (as the first step in scrapping the new regs completely). We'll see. |

Why come over? There is no need to take such a big risk. Stay at home, relax, apply for jobs there. When something comes up that you like, send them the proper docs and wait for your visa. If you come over on your own dime and things don't work out, you're screwed. |

So far that aint happening. I know of two people who are in this situation and we have contacted several immigration offices, and all of them have given the exact same answer that they will have to go back to their home countries for the consulate interviews. |

Even without the new visa regulations I would still recommend signing
up with a public school for your first year. It gives you a year of
almost guaranteed paychecks. |
