I checked the listings of events at several internet sites, and I saw no concerts listed. You might have to settle for carollers around the big Christmas tree near City Hall (or bars with house bands ...) |

Surely there are musical events tonight and tomarrow.
There sure is very little music in Korea outside of when you see young women standing in front of a store doing marketing promotions. Little or no music was one of the first things I realized about Korea in my 1st month which was a put down since I love music. Surprisingly, no traditional Korean music and art was to be seen, except a little bit in Seoul. I bet the most music in my city of 500,000 is when I get my students to sing Christmas carols and other children's songs. I told the school we should take them caroling, but they said no. Funny thing, we did go downtown to sing Halloween music on Halloween day.
All the young people want to go to Seoul for more music, arts, and culture, but the fact is, there is still yet very little to be experienced. Why such a dead scene for performing arts? They do have visual arts going on big time such as with the Christmas lights and the Van Gogh exhibit. In my town, they had Richard Combas exhibit from Paris a few months ago at the contemporary art museum so that is a positive sign that Korea is beginning to appreciate the arts. Can we say a little culturally behind, but having potential? |

Every weekend there are free traditional Korean cultural performance on Insadong street, and at the various palaces.
In my opinion, most types of music, visual, and performing art appreciated in Korea.
Moreover, it seems to me that school art and music programs are more prevalent here than in the U.S.
And, don't forget, Korea has the "Wonder Girls" ...
Don't you see the "Irony":

Well, there is this on Christmas Day.
Not saying I'll be there of course. These are the guys who wrote the song about Lee Myungbag. I expect the military police will show up and kick everybody's head in. |
