Ok, I guess I was not in the best Christmas spirit the last couple of posts.

So let's see if I can't be constructive here.

A great link for lots of bittorrent help is here:

http://torrentfreak.com/20-bittorrent-tips-and-tricks-070903/

The wikipedia reference for the RAR file format is here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.rar

^^ Particularly the "external links" section for everything RAR

I'm guessing you are not only new to torrents, but computers in general. I would suggest that you do searches for and read up on...

"compression formats", "iso", "daemon tools", "alcohol 120% (really)", "file-sharing", "torrents", "video codec", "what is seeding", "how to seed", "how much should I seed", "usb storage"...

Then you won't be "n00b" anymore Smile

Merry Christmas

Wow...I can feel the love!

Wink

Merry Christmas!

santiago

bit torrent clients like utorrent and azureus will tell you about your share ratio.

for example, it will say - downloaded 1gig, uploaded 100mb, share ratio 10%. utorrent will say that your share ratio is 0.1, which is the same. so the objective is to get to 100% shared or 1.0 shared (having allowed the full file to be uploaded by other users).

you need to keep the entire file on your hard drive, or you cant share it. if you delete it or move it, the torrent will throw back an error file. after you get a fair share ratio, you can delete the file if you wish.

on private sites, there's a lot of kudos to people who share more than they download ... on oink i had a share ratio of 3.5 ... which is incredibly difficult, as any former oink members would know.

however, when i requested files, or when i participated in sharing, people were always interested in helping me, because they could see that i was good at sharing.

the point is to have a good attitude. that benefits the community and it benefits you.

good luck with it!~!! Smile

Thank you Superdave.

I think I have it mostly under control now. I'm going to leave the files on my computer for as long as I can before deleting them and I've got uTorrent now (much faster than BitTorrent). So far it beats the hell out of the alluc.org type of sites even though you end up having to wait. The selections are better and more reliable and the quality is too. There's always some annoying issue that pops up before I can watch what I've downloaded but I suppose those will become easier to solve as I learn more about the process.

Thanks to everyone who posted with help.
