Sorry if this has been posted numerous times. I tried searching but couldn't find anything.

I'm currently trying to find a teaching job in Korea, either at a hakwon or private(s), but I haven't finished my university yet. I know the degree is required to get the E-2 visa, but I'm eligible for an F-4.

What would be my best bet, to send resumes from here or to actually go there and look? Will hakwons/recruiters even look at my resume since I don't have a degree yet? If they do, will I be able to get the standard contract/airfare/housing? Or is getting the F-4 and doing private tutoring my only option?

Any help/advice is appreciated.

I sure work with a lot of Korean teachers who are still completing their degrees. But then they're citizens. F-4 visa does allow you to engage in a large number of jobs. Is it possible to simply come here without a job and then slide into one?

Can you speak Korean and English?
If so, there are several loopholes for Gyopos with those abilities....

PM me for details

I can't PM you because I don't have the required 25 posts to do so, but yes I can speak both languages, though my English is far better than my Korean. Any details will be very helpful. Thanks.

Hi Michael! Meet spliff. He's the eslcafe parasite. Ignore him, like everyone else does and he'll stay in the buy/sell forum telling people they are overpricing wares by a buck or two like a sad tired old goat with nothing better to do than search out internet shopping sites all day.

Tompattz would be the man to ask a question like yours.

If you come here first and THEN get a job, you will NOT BE REIMBURSED AIRFARE.

If you get the job while you are still at home, you WILL GET AIRFARE PAID.

I made the mistake of coming to Korea first and then getting a job here. The plane ride here was around $1200 US that I had to swallow.

Being a Gyopo, you should be able to get an F-4 visa, this will alow you to work at any place you want, as long as you meet the criteria for that job. And be thankful you don't get an E2 because then you'd be chained to the place you work, at least you are pretty much a free-agent

Many wangjangnims will whine and complain that you do need a BA to teach English. But the truth is, as soon as all hell breaks loose, there won't be enough ESL teachers, foreign or local, to fill the demand and that is where YOU come in.

If I were you, I'd brush up on my parts of speech, grammar and any other types of mechanics that you might need to teach in the classroom.

If you go to sites like English Spectrum and Myenglishjob, you will see alot of part time jobs that are looking for gyopo teachers to teach and the pay is "ok" to say the least.

The real money is in doing corporate English at some of the big companies like LG, GS, Samsung and such that pay at least 45,000- 60,000 wons an hour.

Keep your eyes open and your fingers crossed

I think it is important to remember that the degree is a visa requirement, not a job requirement(hagwan jobs/conversation classes/kids). Having a BA has no real bearing on your ability to do ESL teaching/sympathetic native speaker/ESL clowning. I have worked with BEd holders who couldnt teach a rock to stay still, high school dropouts who were great kindergarten teachers, and visa versa.

I would work part-time hagwan jobs to get experience while slowly building up a bunch of privates. This will let you get a feel for ESL teaching and get paid good money.

Good luck.

NilesQ is giving great advice....

Why get a visa that will make you a virual prisoner to the school that sponsors you?

If you are eligible for an F4 visa, you are in better shape than most E2 holders.

As for getting your BA?
Once you start making money, you can take online classes and slowly and surely get your BA, and by then you will be an exceptional teacher...if that is what you want to be.......

And you can't spell Latin: it's "vice versa."

Hey, don't get upest - I know I'm just being pedantic, I 'm just pulling ya' leg. Actually I agree with what you say.

Carry on,
