I need to find out my old ARC number from while I lived in Korea. I know it is kept on a computer somewhere in the government -- but how can I find it out? I don't have it written down anywhere or a photocopy of the card or anything.

Well, they are created by the immigration bureau, so that might be a good place to start.

They would also be recorded by banks when you create accounts. Call the bank you used to deal with.

If you were paying into pension you can call the pension office, tell them your name and where you used to work. They'll have a record of it. They had mine anyway.

When you say "old number" were you one of those who had two numbers?

Immigration will have both your numbers on file. If you only ever had one, that number never changes.

If it is to get your pension back from your old number, you have to hit immigration anyways to get a special form that shows you had the old number before they changed the whole numbering system a few years back.

If banging your head against the thick, thick wall that is Korean bureacracy gets boring you could always go to your old school, or phone provider if you had a plan.
