Does anyone know what the penalty would be if you aren't able to officially process all the documents for your child with the Korean immigration within 30 days of its birth?
Do you pay a fine is it big or do you get other problems or are they understanding that Rome wasn't built in a day and that some shit takes longer to get the paper work to process?
I hope someone knows the answer.
I look forward to your replies.
Sincerely yours

Hi,
My wife checked naver, and got a few numbers netween 20k and 200k depending on how much after 30 days registration takes place.
I am pretty sure it was 400K was the penalty in my head, as we only managed to register on day 29. I don't know where this number came from but I thought it was just to make sure every birth got registered!
Sorry I can't back up the 400k number, but I hope you have to pay nothing like this.
I went with a Korean friend who was able to do everything in 20 mins.
I just verified babys name in hangul and my wifes address as on her ID card was what we entered on the form. |

MY wife and I just talked about that. Apparently, we dont need to declare her at immigration, as she will have dual citizenship until she's 18.
We are applying for her passport at the Canadian embassy later this week, and then she will declare the baby at the local Gu or Dong-office. Then we'll get her a Korean passport.
When we leave Korea, she'll use her Korean passport, and then use her Canadian one for entering Canada. I was informed that this is okay, but don't quote me on it. We'll find out soon enough. |

Hi Ilsanman,
I am guessing by the cutie avatar and dual passports, that your wife is Korean?
She has to get her family tree altered by registering the child at a gu office, and apparently this is what has to be done within 30 days.
Immi don't need to be informed of anything.
Baby can then get a Korean passport in 3 days at a cost of about 30K.
This is the route we are using, as the UK passport is very pricey and takes a wee while to process.
I would ask your wife to phone and double check at the Gu office. |

That's what we're planning on doing. SHe's not quite 30 days old yet, so we should do it this week or next.

We had to do the same thing when our son was born. |
