I've head that Bangkok is one of the better places in Asia to get tats, but how about Phuket.

Obviously cleanliness in a concern.

So does anyone have any first hand recomendations to give me.

Also, what are some of the highlights there? I'll be staying for 5 days with my girlfriend. We already have a resort booked and all on Kamla beach.

Thanks in advance.

No first hand advice here, but do some research on reputable tattoo websites for their recommendations. BME is one that comes to mind, but I don't know if they do intl. recommendations.

Thanks for that.

How about transportation from the airport to one of the beach side resorts.

Should it really cost 500 baht like my Lonely Planet says it should?

The Phuket airport transportation SUCKS, it sucks so bad. I don't remember the cost, but it is one place where they get you in transportation fees.

You have a couple options. One is a "van shuttle." This is the cheapest and involves not knowing where to stand, having questions ignored by the traffic ushers and rushing to every approaching van just in case they are going to your area on the beach. Took over an hour to get one. No lines, no consistency, complete bullshit. People were yelling at the traffic ushers. I even wrote a letter after my trip to the ministry of Thai tourism. Another option is a taxi or shared taxi. This is more expensive and once again, no lines or consistency. 2 angry men had been waiting almost 2 hours while people who waited 20 minutes were chosen by the ushers for the taxis. Add this to taxi drivers just hanging out, smoking and not caring.

The Phuket airport and getting transportation was actually the WORST part of my Thai adventure.

The transport situation at the airport is controlled by the Phuket Limousine drivers Mafia/Cooperative. There are independent taxis at the back of the car park. Just keep walking past the touts. I paid 500 Baht for aircon taxi to Kamala.

500 baht is like 17,000 won correct?

The only thing that really stresses me when travelling to a new destiation is the arrival at the airport.

There's no much going on and I have to process so many new things, and then you have to deal with taxi drivers trying to rob ya Laughing

It's bad.
They got ya by the balls, and they know it.

Yes, you're looking at 500 Baht for a ride into Patong Beach.
About 45 minutes by taxi from the airport.

WARNING: If you take the shuttle bus, it'll be cheaper but it may take you an hour and a half to 2 hours to get to Patong and beaches south of Patong. For instance, the driver might stop in Phuket Town first, or visit some of his friends who own hotels and try to get guests to stay at these hotels.

Expect this kind of bullshit from these taxi / shuttle bus drivers. I've had this happen to me a couple of times.
