Has anybody done this? What worked? What didn't?

What's a good video for teaching elementary school? (Love songs, OK.)

Is there a better source than youtube? They are not very clear, once you project them on a screen for a large class.

luvnpeas,

There are so many. I love the Lemontree animated video. I also make many karaoke videos. Many are Rock. Especially love also, Mr. Morton is the Subject of the sentence...

Go to EFL Classroom 2.0 http://eflclassroom.ning.com and click A/V on the right. For the moment non members can access. I''ve started to upload great karaoke videos there for one click big screen use in the classroom....

I've done a number of videos

some 80's metal/rock right up to Eminem

anything goes as long as it's interesting to the students and you design the lesson to be language oriented in some way.

I have used "Hello, Goodbye" by the Beatles to teach them about opposited. My middle school students loved the cheesy video.

For elementary students, try "All together now", also by The Beatles. Simple counting, ABC's, colours, ect with a chorus they will love to shout.

All my memories, gather round her,
miner's ________, stranger to blue water.
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky,
misty ________ of moonshine teardrop in my eye.

Country ________, take me ________,
to the place I belong.
West Virginia, Mountain momma,
Take me ________ Country ________

I hear her ________ in the morning hour she calls me,
the radio reminds me of my ________ far away
and driving down the ________ I get a feeling
that I should have been ________ yesterday, yesterday.

Country ________ take me ________,
to the place I belong.
West Virginia, Mountain momma,
Take me ________, Country ________

Country ________ take me ________,
to the place I belong.

Hello Goodbye is a good one. Simple words and clear singing.

Here's a link to the "Hello Goodbye" video which GEPIK, in its infinite wisdom, doesn't block (all Youtube is blocked for me at schol)

This might not be about rock videos but it is about using songs in the classroom.

I just developed a new game based on an old concept. Called, Last One Standing. Read the rules in the ppt but basically you show vocab from a song, preteach and then students make a big card of one word. They listen and as their word is sung, they sit down. Last one standing wins and so does their group. Or play reverse if the students know the game.....

I have a few more like this on our community and I'm working on one without lyrics, just the vocab slides. That will have a bundle of songs, click and play.

Feedback appreciated, I'm sure lots could be improved.

i've used music several times, different classes - this is what has always worked the best, depending on the class:

Beatles Greatest Hits - I think it's number 2, a re-release, yes, as others mentioned, she loves you, hello goodbye, very good easy to hear

Elvis - yes, Elvis - he still gets the hormones going in both boys and girls - they usually love it unless it's a really uptight class - one class of 6th graders really got off to it and we would all dance - used to drive my K coteach up the wall - she couldn't stand we were having so much fun!!

and finally, Willie Nelson sometimes works - a lot of kids have never heard country music, sometimes they like it a lot - it just depends.

*please* this is a lesson, after all, write the names of the groups on the board, give a little information as to what kind of music they are famous for and explain the difference genres of music; you might be the first and only person to introduce this to them for years to come.

have fun!!
