I am looking at a teaching job in Seoul. Good salary, hours, vacation, etc...

The only catch is that they don't provide housing. Housing allowance of 300K.

Does anybody know of any real estate agencies/agents to deal with?

On average, how much would the key money be in the Hongdae area, or any area in Seoul that is near by.

Thanks.

The average is about 10 million for key money and 4-5 hundred thousand won monthly.

Key money can be haggled down to around 3-5 million won. Rent from around 350,000 and up.

You'll have to find a real estate agent (budongsan in Korean) in the area you want to live in. You'll need someone to help you and should negotiate your school to help you out, if not sign the lease. Many places won't help foreigners for fear of flight, so talk to old teachers for recommendations.

You can bargain 10 million deposit down to 2 million. With that low deposit, expect a shoebox, small place for 400,000-500,000 a month in Seoul.

Also, 300,000 a month and no key money or furniture is low. You said the pay was good. Be sure it is. My employer pays 700,000 a month for my place.

Where?!?!? Don't create false expectations.

Officetels usually take only days to fill up. If you start haggling that low, they just tell you to screw yourself.

In Seoul and in popular areas. It takes some footwork, but many of my friends and I all found places in our desired locations after getting 10 million won deposits lowered to 2 million. 350,000 is low, but findable, even near Seoul hotspots. Like I said earlier, though, it will be a shoebox apartment. 500,000 and up will net a regular studio, possibly more.
