Yup. Everything in my previous post applies when flying to the states too. |
Damn, didn't know it was that easy.
Why do so many people give away their pets when they leave Korea? Just a hassle then.
I always assumed they had real tough quarantine laws back in the States to get a pet in. |

Yeah, it's sad that so many people can't be bothered. In 2002 when I took my Korean dog to the US it cost me somewhere around 150,000 won. That was for his paperwork, his meds, and his plane ticket. It would have been less if I hadn't paid extra to have him in the cabin with me. |

Harsh... All my experience has been with Northwest Airlines. |

There aren't any major quarantine restrictions for North America, though I'm fairly sure for the UK there is a 6 month mandatory quarantine for any pets arriving. This could be reason enough for some people not to want to put their pets through that.
I'm bringing my new puppy back to Canada with me the first week in March. She's 10 weeks old now. Does anyone know where I can get an airline approved pet carrier, and roughly how much extra I'd be looking to pay through Korean air? (Has to be Korean air, since that's the airline SMOE uses to send you home by).
Thanks |

Ask your vet to order one, or buy it from the airline. |

If your dog is flying in the cabin a sherpa bag is the best - light and sturdy. If it is flying in the cargo then go with a very sturdy one. I am going on vacation tomorrow with both my dogs on KAL, one in cabin and one in cargo. They are charging me the same for both - about $200 each. Get a direct flight. I understand the Northwest is really good and more reasonably priced. Your school may very well let you make up the difference if you choose to fly with that airline. If your pup is too big to go in the cabin - heavier than 11lbs INCLUDING the carrier, then make sure that you dress it up warm when you put it in its carrier for the carfo area. I phoned the airline for the exact temperature in the pet area and they said 50 degrees F. That can be a bit chilly for an 11+ hour flight. So just throw a doggy snow-suit on it or something like that, and a blanket for it to snuggle in. March is still pretty cool. Anyways, hope this helps. |
