a recruiter just asked me "what am i doing on the weekend?" this was after another ten, maybe twenty such personal questions that had no relevance to the topic of the phone call, which was finding me a job. he didn't even say what his name is or where he was calling from. just said it was david. to me, that is just rude. you are bombarding me with questions, yet you do not have enough politeness to introduce yourself properly. when he asked this last question, as my american friends would say, "i gave it to him straight!" i'll be making love with my girlfriend.
this surprised him and the conversation kind of went downhill from there on in! Razz

I don't know if there is such a thing as a personal question here in Korea. I'm not sure if "What are you doing this weekend?" falls under the same category as "Are you married?" (which OF COURSE means that soon after you're hired, you're going to leave the office to try to have children...) Rolling Eyes I might ask the "What will you do this weekend?" question innocently as a "What are your hobbies/What do you do in your spare time?" question, to find out more about what makes you tick.
Admittedly, in the wrong mindset, it could be used to troll for people who fit the hagwan owner's kind of thinking, as in a super Christian looking for people who do not drink whatsoever, or more realistically, they had a problem with Joe, the Soju-loving foreigner, and want to make sure that if you party, you don't party TOO much.
I got asked once if I were an animal, what kind of animal would I be. Stranger questions have happened.

Here's waterbaby's irrelevant, personal question...

Is it rat-slash or rats-lash? Confused always wondered that...

Yeah I had an interview with a recruiter, after I had the job.
She just wanted to chat and asked some very personal questions about family, boyfriend etc.
Recruiters are hopeless.

Most recruiters I've spoken to on the phone are incredibly rude.

Actually, I find that the case with most Korean females. I HATE speaking to them on the phone. They are curt, sound as if their ugly panties are chafing them, their black eyeliner is irritating their eyes, and they've got someone else on the other line. This includes recruiters, directors, phone operators.
