sorry to say, but Reedtea & I deal with the same type of problem at least once a week - often 2-3 times.
There is a sleazier chicken hof & small taxi-driver oriented restaurant in the building next to ours, on the first floor (we are up on the 3rd).
In the 3 years we have been in our 'home' - a villa in an otherwise mom&pop residential 'villa' area - there have been countless incidents downstairs, late at night, during the week, usually involving drunk Korean men (and occasionally women).
Besides the peeing & vomiting in the passthrough (which is actually a driveway - but thank sky, not the one we park our cars in) between the buildings (the restrooms are 'in back'), there are frequent yelling matches and fistfights.
Police or mobs of rival taxi companies show up on a regular basis.
Now, we actually don't blame the drunks so much as we do the chicken hof & shik-dang owners - THEY are the ones who continue to serve them, and let them get up to that point. If there is an occasional unexpected fight in your bar/restaurant, that is one thing. But when it becomes a regular occurance, you have an issue.
Lots of the other neighbors ignore it, but after more then 15 minutes, we open the windows & yell. If we had buckets, I think we'd throw water sometimes.
I feel your pain on this one. And I, for the most part, really like living here & our neighborhood in general.
Regards,
G. |

GI? Why? Anyway, US military have a curfew. |
Am I the only one here who used to regularly hang out with soldiers in Hongdae until sunrise? The curfew means "No coming back after 1am, but if you're stuck out, you have to wait until 5am."
Anyway, SeoulShakin, next time don't yell at them. Pour water. |

GI or not (though I'm fairly sure he was - I don't know many guys who get their hair styled that way by choice), the comments and death threats were unnecessary.
Korean or not, their behaviour was inconsiderate.
Admittedly, my saying shut up wasn't super polite, but the reaction to it was extreme.
Argue all you want, but those points are true. |

I hope you start a "friggin Koreans" thread and go on in the same manner next time two of them are loud early in the morning. |
... cmon, man. Are you trying to tell me you don't regularly see threads *beep* about this exact thing in relation to Koreans? People constantly post threads *beep* about Koreans doing stuff like this. Please don't play the "persecuted whitie" card. For every thread someone posts *beep* about whities, there are 10 posts *beep* about Koreans. |

As I said earlier, I think there are enough of those threads on this site. And I've also vented about things Koreans have done here.
(See the time I had to jump out a bus window, and the time there was a 3 person violent fight outside - the other incident I mentioned here).
I don't discriminate. Stupid is as stupid does. |

Oh, and yes I do, and usually I say something pointing out how stupid it is to generalize. |

Not that it's important, or relevant, they weren't all white. |

It's idiots like those who make it that much harder for all expats, because they scare and offend the local host nationals. (That's what US military calls the people in foreign countries)
I too was a soldier who seen a lot of shit go down, but luckily I was never this retarded even though you might think my writing is retarded. lol
For those of you living near US military bases, you should keep the MP phone numbers handy and call them when you see this kind of stupidity. They will come out and round those boys up for a court martial with an Article 16 which means they get half pay and extra duty for several months and a reduction in rank. They can and will round em' up off base (if they can find the place) due to the status of forces agreement (SOFA) allowing American military law to apply to civilian areas when relevant. Every 1st sergeant and commander warns soldiers about getting too drunk and fighting, but many brainless idiots just do it even more. They are also told all about how they are ambassadors representing the good ol' US of A and how we shouldn't come off as arrogant foolish show offs to the point where Americans are hated and unwelcome.
I had two Koreans tell me they don't want Americans here due to GI's not paying taxis, punching people, vandalizing property, fighting, yelling, intimidations, and spoiling the pure blood (LMAO!) by getting women pregnant without taking responsibility for the baby. This sort of thing with GI's is nothing new to me as it's the same sad situation all over the world and I have seen it in many countries when I served in the army. In many places around the world, the locals are saying, "Go home and fix you're own problems!" |

It's either Article 15 (Non-judicial Punishment) or court-martial. And you can't tell just by their haircuts that someone's US military. For one thing, plenty of people do like their hair that short. For another, female military aren't required to have short hair.
The Status of Forces Agreement isn't what makes military law applicable to US military off-base. It's just good ol' US federal law: the UCMJ (a code of federal law) applies to all active duty US military no matter where they happen to find themselves.
The Koreans who whined about US military not paying taxes are ignorant. In the first place, they do pay taxes (both state and federal) on their military salary. In the 2nd place, they also pay sales taxes for stuff they buy off-base. Those comments about "spoiling the pure blood" are just racist crap. Ask those Koreans how they feel about Korean men defiling Philippine blood sometime. |

Yeah, I made some chill Korean friends who are in their early/mid-20s, and they pretty much have the same sentiment. They are liberal and well-traveled, just to rid you guys of the thought that these are the narrow-minded, xenophobic, and conservative stereotypes that many of you use with such frequency. Anyway, they were saying how a lot of foreigners have a bad reputation because of places like Itaewon, where foreigners fighting is pretty normal. Every time I go there at night, there is some stupid black vs. white fight going on outside of Helios. Every other word is "f*ck" and they all look pretty damn scary. It sucks that a lot of us Americans get such a bad rep due to some drunk, testosterone-brimming, racist assholes. |

:slaps-self: Yep, he did. FWIW, I've heard both Americans and Koreans whine that "American military don't pay any taxes!"
Anyway, I've only seen a couple of reports over the last three years here about miltary guys not paying taxi fare. And those clowns got in trouble for it, too. |

A GI apologist? Come on, buddy, by the sounds of it (especially if they "weren't all white") the chances of these scum being US Military are 99.1% |

I'm not an apologist for anyone. Care to post how you determine your statistics? I mean, other than that's what you want them to be. I prefer to not categorize people by bigoted methodology. |

I pulled the percentage out of my ass as a joke intended to imply high likelihood.
Like I said, the observed hairstyles, Seoulshakin's testimony that not all were white, implies US Military as opposed to hagwon jockey, surely to goodness? |
