I wasn't trying to be condescending. I hope it didn't come across that way (maybe it did). No offense to any of you. |
It's a discussion forum. There aren't that many of us PC builders here on Dave's so anyone's new PC is worth ruminating over. I'm always interested because I'm always thinking of my next upgrade........I know it's true that tech-guys can get really anal about stuff. But it's one of my hobbies. It should be done well or not at all. |

Didn't bother me. Honestly I'm surprised this thread keeps getting bumped - it's 10 days old already and only about my computer. Actually it should die off now. |

What I find useful in this thread, or that is to say, what I feel is useful to others, is the systems' behavior due to a bad stick of RAM.
I would have guessed that 1 bad stick would have resulted in only 3GB being detected in the BIOS and we would have lost our dual channel goodness. I indeed diagnosed the problem as first, the graphics card (though there were no bootbeeps, the monitors were displaying "no signal"), and second as a mainboard problem. We saw 4GB of RAM in the BIOS, but indeed, one stick was faulty in it's I/O functionality, not the SPD reading. Very deceptive.
It was educational and deserves to be noted by all builders or future builders. |

sorry to bump this again, but I want to gush about this system.
Currently I'm working in premeire pro 3 with 5000+ pics and several video files, photoshop CS3, adobe bridge, acdsee 9, multiple tabs firefox, streaming internet radio, 18 torrents open in utorrent, multple gadgets (vista) and nothing has even slowed down. At one point I was also burning a DVD in ashampoo.
Everything is snappy snappy snappy! quadcore and 4gigs of ram is unbelievable.
Woot! welcome to 2008.
now listening to The Beastie Boyz via Live 88.5 out of Ottawa. |
