anyways, my co-teacher was checking the inventory in the English Zone today with the list the girls from admin gave her... when i looked at the list only about 50% of the items were checked (present).
really, i know a lot of money marked for the English dept is misused and finds its way else where, but the amount of stuff that was supposed to be there (including a portable, hand-held scanner) was just appalling.
i'm just hoping they don't look my way-- the English Zone has always been freakin' empty at my school (except for the games, books and magazines i bought...which i don't intend leaving) |

3rd English teacher at this school and I don't even have my own office or classroom. Wait! It gets better! My students don't even have desks! They have this cheap plastic mat they sit on. Then they have to lie on their bellies when they have to take tests/write. The mat is so disgusting. |

I too, share classrooms and desks with Korean teachers, despite them not being in the room with me while I teach. To solve this problem, we got a piece of furniture in the teachers room where foreign teachers each have a drawer to store things in. We have desks and chairs, but they are old and yucky with many being broken.
Schools are cheap arses on supplies. My students don't bring pencils, erasers, crayons, scissors, and paper, so I have to bring these sorts of things to my classes. I understand kindergarten students not bringing anything to school, but most of my middle school students fail to bring school supplies and I know it is not because they are poor as they wear high designer fashions and their parents have good jobs. They have these cute pencil cases, but often have nothing in them!!!
When I ask for stationary supplies, I just get a hard way to go and must negotiate with the secretary for a little bit of supplies that is not enough so I make students share pencils, scissors, crayons, and often cut a piece of paper in half to make two pieces. Getting markers to write on white boards is also a challenge, especially when the one I was given yesterday is already empty due to it not being adequately refilled with the liquid as they are recycled.
When I ask for anything, I have to give the old ones back such as short pencil stubs and empty markers as well as broken cheap plastic scissors.
I sometimes buy things due to not having enough as pencils and erasures don't last as long when you break them in half to make two. |

it's a regular classroom, but filled with posters of foreigners, desks, and a computer from the '80s
seriously though, after reading these comments, i actually feel kind of lucky! although i don't get any funding for anything either, my kids do have desks and i don't have to buy or ask for basic necessities, such as pencils, erasers for them |

Wow, those conditions sound barbaric... for the students and you. Do you know how much money those students' parents are paying the school every month? My guess is that it is a lot more than what you are seeing in your paycheck. Your hagwon owner must be a real tightwad. You really need to negotiate for a better teaching/working environment. Either that or find a different school. You graduated from university, right? Start demanding better treatment or else the bar will be lowered for all of us. |

And a computer from the 80's...That made me laugh
A hand held scanner would be fucking awesome! I'm going to scour the inventory and see if it's kicking around. Half the resources I found were stuffed behind the TV, in boxes, jammed under this or that, etc, etc... |

I don't get the impression they are talking about hagwons, it sounds more like a public school. Please correct me if I'm wrong. As an aside, I have no problems getting materials from my owner. |

hahhaa I'm at a public school actually! I don't mind not having my own office or classroom but I would like for the students to have desks at least. I just hate having to see them hunched over when they have to write. |
