|
|
Okay I bought have these little things with a sticky back on them. In the photo, it shows the cockroaches crawling inside the thingy, and dying.
What I'm confused by is the 8 steps/directions on the back.
I thought all I had to do was open the plastic wrap, and stick the thing on a wall or something, and the rest would take care of itself.
Am I wrong?
Help please! |

Hard to know without seeing the directions. I guess make sure there isn't anything inside you need to pull out which would be covering the sticky stuff. Those traps are really simple -- just a box with really sticky glue stuff inside and something that smells to attract them.
Actually, people who kill roaches for a living say the traps are virtually worthless on a large scale, and should only be used to track the numbers of them you catch. I forget what ratio it is, but they say there are something like 10 (or 30 for all I know) roaches you don't catch for every one that you do. When I had roaches in my house back home, the exterminator told me that.
I had flying roaches getting into my house in Korea last year. I bought the proper-sized round black roach circle things they crawl into and eat stuff, then leave and bring back to the nest. I put one of these near every crack, doorway, behind the refridgerator, under the sink, etc. I also bought the tube of squeeze junk that you leave little dots of all around the edges of the house. That seemed to take care of them.
Oh, and don't forget to clean up all traces of food, make sure all opened food is sealed, and wipe down counters and floors. Don't leave them any food. Wiping down the floors and counters removes their trails and confuses them.
If they are really bad, you may need an exterminator. When they were in our place, we bought all of the neighbors roach killing supplies (the tubes of junk are really cheap -- maybe 2,000 won) and asked them to use it. If you don't kill them thru the whole building, they'll keep coming back.

Ignore all the sticky traps. Goto the pharmacy & buy a red can called "Baqui Killer". It's essentially a poison smoke grenade you need to light up with a lighter.
Put a heavy dish on a non meltable surface & put the can on it. Light the fuse & leave your apartment for about 4 hours. Come back & air the place out for an hour.
ALL roaches are dead (gas goes everywhere). Repeat every 3-6 months when needed.
Problem solved. (unless you have eggs, then you'll need to do it again a 2nd time to kill the young ones..then you'll be fine about a week later).

Yeah, we bought some of the smoke killer stuff. That works well. RAID is expensive, but they make one that you add water to, and it creates a chemical smoke reaction. We gave two of those to the downstairs neighbors (students). I had one too, but didn't need to use it. I helped them set them off. Their place was about 25 pyung, so we used both at once. |

In Thailand I had a perimeter spray that I sprayed around the edge of the internal walls inside my house.
Roaches follow the walls normally when moving around. Killed them off fast and lasted for months (maybe that was because we didn't wash the floor enough) |

Off topic, but at my bar in Ilsan we had a mouse issue last summer. Could never find the bastard, and couldn't see how he was getting in. I bought some of those sticky trays and left them out.
One day when i was cleaning I noticed a big hole under a sofa cushion. I positioned one of the trays and up-ended the sofa and started shaking it.
The hugest mouse you've ever seen jumped out and landed square on it. He was instantly stuck, and after squirming a little he just layed there pathetically squeaking.
I didn't know what to do with him. I couldn't bring myself to put him out of his misery by smashing his skull or something. I felt a little queasy.
I took the tray and left it at a construction site across the street. He looked forlornly at me with his little mousy eyes as I set him down and walked away.
I guess I will now be going to Hell for being an evil girly-man. Maybe I will see the mouse there, but he will be huge, and he will throw me onto a sticky tray again and again for eternity. |

Yeah I read about those gas bomb things, and they sound like the best bet. I'm worried however, about how safe these are for animals that are in the apartment, which is why I went with those sticky trap things.
I'm worried about spraying this stuff around every edge in the apartment unless the puppy licks it.
I presume if I use the gas bomb thing, I'd have to take the animals out of the house for that time as well. Is it safe to bring them back in afterwards? |

It's worth the extra money it costs to get the brand called, "RAID Fumigator." After you use it, let it sit for the prescribed time (3 to 4 hours) before going back in. After that, you should be safe to let your pets come back in, as long as you throw away the used container. |

So I just have to find somewhere to bring my pup and the cat I am catsitting for 4 hours while it goes off.
Does anyone know of a link in English that says it's okay for pets after the prescribed time? I tried looking but couldn't find anything. I'll look again.
Thanks |
