Well two things don't wash here.
First, I was under the impression that the new regulations dont apply till March 15th 2008 for renewals.
Secondly, criminal records usually only show convictions...not arrests.
Hate to say it, but smells like a troll! |
Wrong. They came into affect on Decmeber 15th, 2007.
For people who are already in Korea renewing around now, it would be impossible to get their documents together in time so they have until March 15th to get their documents to immigration, and will be allowed to have an E-2 visa until then. If they don't supply their documents by the 15th of March, their E-2 visa will be cancelled and they will be deported. If they get their documents in by then they get to keep their E-2 visa. |

What is this? Police checks, background checks, drug tests, STD tests, diploma checks, etc..etc...
Just so western teachers in their twenties and thirties can sit in a small crowded room with screaming children and play hangman for four hours a day while Mr. Kim watches from his office on the hidden camera (while meanwhile thinking of ways to cheat you any way he can)... leave and step over the pools of vomit, get pushed in the bus and subways by superbred old ladies with curly hair and arms of steal, and then zig zag through the motos on sidewalks and ignore the stares and glares and finally end up at the apartment where everyone is packed in like sardines and in order to get a good nights rest you have got either live on the top floor, call the police, or wear ear plugs.
Do koreans coming to Canada or the States or to Europe face these things??? |

Well, if you think that having taught one year in Korea will make the renewal of your visa go smoothly, despite the new rules, think again. I was just rejected because of two arrests (for possession and burglary - with no convictions) that happened 25 years ago, when I was 17.

Sorry to say this, but I am glad you can't teach here anymore. |

No way! Rejected for getting arrested! I am so glad I have an E-7
and don't have to go through that kind of crap. When I was a teenager
I was arrested so many times I can't even count. I was also convicted
when I was 19, but after that I was a good boy for 7 years and got a
pardon. (record removed and expunged). So there is probably no way
in hell I would be given an E-2.
BTW: If you want to know the bad stuff I did, it was all cool, drug-related
stuff - so don't worry. |

I don't think I ever tried to cover up my real character. Weed is god's
gift to humanity baby. It might even make chicks like you attractive
to the average male. However I doubt it. |

So if you're arrested for something that you're completely innocent of and found innocent in court, you think that if a potential employer gets wind of it you should not get the job?
How would you feel if that happened to you? |

yeah this really does suck. I've never been arrested etc but these kind of principles means I won't stay in this country. Japan is way better and while Korea goes backwards China moves forwards.
It's a shame cos I like my job and the kids I teach but the country and culture as a whole isn't for me. |

In Canada, it shows up in your CRC if the police have ever visited your house for any reason.
ie- domestic disturbance ...or whatever the case may be.
Also , you can renew your visa with your current school or transfer an existing visa that hasn't expired before March 15 without all that BS.
These new regs suck a** ......
However it won't stop ME from returning and working on my trusty 6 month visitor visa.
This country is backwards........
