Peter Berg has clearly been watching Michael Mann's directorial work, and it's good he did. I've read mixed reviews about this film, primarily from blog reviews not the professionals, and I'm not sure why. The introduction was good, and I especially liked the style of animation. The second act was slower than it might have been, but built characterization that the third act used very well. The action sequence that peaks the third act was the best I've seen since "Children of Men." I am really surprised this film was as good as it was. Jamie Fox either has excellent taste or an excellent agent.
I'm not crazy for action movies, but this film did a good job of mixing drama and explosions. I can't remember that last time I yelled at a movie, and I did it several times watching "The Kingdom." I don't even know why I'm writing this post, as I ignore the "This Movie" posts almost uniformly. Somehow, it seemed worth mentioning, and after searching I was surprised no one else had brought it up, so I did. Watch this movie. |

I thought it was a great movie, especially for 2,000 won on the street. |

The introduction credits were a kind of blurry animation. |

Of course this is a little off topic, but has anybody seen the Michael Clayton bootleg DVD anywhere on the streets? Yes, the kingdom was really good too! |

Didn't enjoy it in the least - kept wondering when someone was going to tell the Americans to go home. |

My problems with the movie are:
1. There is no way that the Saudi government, or any government for that matter, would NOT let the FBI come and investigate. As far as I know, every major terrorist attack against Americans (except for those committed in war zones) has been investigated in full or in part by the FBI. So that whole plotline is nonsense.
2. The Kingdom and Lions for Lambs have all my Britney Spears/Paris Hilton friends just shocked that all this is going on. It seems that these two movies (and others: Rendition) are the only source for people to get informed on the problems of the world today. If dependence on Saudi oil is a new topic in your life you are a selfish moron who doesn't deserve to vote or live IMHO. Read a book for chrissakes people! |

I like the second point ^^ I love when people get shocked over this kind of thing. Makes me wonder why such people have a right to vote in the first place. |

Ignorance is bliss.
Also, they probably don't vote if they don't know what's going on. |

What's a scarier thought, is that they do vote without knowing what's going on. |

Indeed. This film was pro-America propagandist BS at its very worst.
I switched it off when the FBI guys were amazed that the Saudi's didn't want more US troops guarding the plundering of the nations natural resources. What a complete shock it must of been for them.
If you want to be informed try and watch something that doesn't come out of Hollywood. I mean, for god's sake people.
Try watching the documentary "no end in sight". |

Ha ha ha! Right, we're just stealing it from them. They aren't making a dime. They have no control whatsoever. Those poor Saudis never catch a break. |

Exactly!
The only reason it is a valuable resource is because more civilized countries developed it. The Saudi government makes large from this. What they do with the money in terms of not building infrastructure etc.. is appalling mind you..... guess that's our fault too! Can't these people do anything for themselves??

Although I agree with the gist of your post I think your wrong here. Normally the FBI would no doubt be invited in a consultative role they wouldn't be issued weapons and the investigation would remain the prerogative of the state in question. Just my two cents worth. |
