Anyone live near the Suraksan subway station? I'm heading to Seoul at the end of January and will be living near there. I'm trying to get an idea of what the neighborhood is like.

Hmmm...

I would take a window of 30-50 minutes by train depending where in Seoul you want to go.

You are definitely in a good area. I am basing this solely on the shops and restaurants and the livelihood of it all.

Also, now that i think about it Suraksan is a good place for hiking.

I hope others chime in and help you with giving you more feedback.. I dont think I am being much helpful..

thanks. you've been really helpful. i was having trouble finding information on the area. it sounds like i won't have to go too far for entertainment and whatnot.. which is what i was concerned with.

Suraksan has a great mountain and for Seoul, the area looks nice, but it is very residential and there aren't many foreigners. You won't have any real nightlife except for the local hofs. If you travel from Suraksan to Dongdaemun Stadium station, it will take you about 1 hour, that includes the transfer.

When you get outside of exit 1 and walk a block or so (toward the hking trail), you'll see a building with a big tomato statue. There are some foreigners living in that building, look for them and say hi.
