Ya knowthe HIV check; did the morons...er...good people at immigration even remotely think about how devastating it is to *tell* someone that they have HIV?

Im referring to the test that has to be done *in* country, after youve said goodbye to all your friends and family. What if you have to suddenly go home because some nurse 100s of miles from home basically gives you a death sentence, and youre *forced* to tell everyone immediately because theres really no way to explain why youre home suddenly.

Did they think about that? Im guessing no.

Nice immi guy:

"You have HIV. I am very sorry."

Bad immi guy:

"(stamps 'Denied' and point to your medical report)"

It's just a question of degree.

We all know this new system is racist and stupid and likely to fail.

Since I have to do it anyway for PS I just get tested before the checkup one. That way if i test positive I will know and just delay the physical until I get my affairs in order and head home.

Does it suck, yes.

But all sexually active people should get tested once a year anyway.

In all likelihood the korean healthcare attendant might confuse the words positive and negative when delivering the verdict. I want my nurse to have passed TOEIC first.

Even the kids somehow know "ne-gah-ti-beu" so I don't think this will be a problem.

Under new regs, you are supposed to submit a med check when you apply for the E-2, then get another 90 days after you arrive. So you should know before you leave home if you have HIV.
