Yeah, I know there's a sticky, but the last post was more than 2 years ago.
So I'm looking for a compact digital camera for taking snapshots around Seoul. I'm not a professional or even really make a hobby of taking pictures.
Just want something small, simple that will take decent pics of my life in Seoul.
Any recommendations? |

Hi I have the Kodak Easyshare C663. I find that the camera is really really good and easy to use and also takes great pics. Before the c663 I had the c340 (i think) which was also really good.
here is the link for the kodak site http://digitalcameras.kodak.co.uk/ that has a list of all of the C series cameras.
I'm no expert at photography but hope that this helps. |

thanks artyom
I also need to put pictures from a camera onto a PC so I can mail them.
I would like to post pictures on the internet so I can send messages to my family whom I haven't seen for 5 years. How do I do this?
Yeah, I know I'm a f@ckwit and it is probably easy, but how DO you get messages onto the web?

The camera uses an SD card which come in many sizes. The SD card is pretty standard and they are easy to buy (and also cheap) then to upload to my computer I use a card reader. Just plug the SD card into the card reader, which attaches to your computer by USB and you are ready.
However when I brought my camera it did also come with a cable to connect the camera to the computer by USB and the software that you need to do it. The best thing to do would be to check when you buy the camera just to make sure that it comes with a cable. I guess that goes for all cameras and I think that it is pretty standard when you buy a new camera that it comes with a cable to connect to your computer. |

always get a better camera than you think you need. There is nothing worse than spending money on a camera that you hate using. shop around, try several different cameras and buy one that feels good even if you have to spend a little more than you wanted.
I recommend cannon or fuji finepix
like the earlier poster said to get the pictures on to the net all you have to do is plug your camera into your computer (normally through usb) |

Also, in your case it sounds like you won't be wanting to print large pictures so you'll probably want to go with an older model but one notch up from whatever people are recommending.
You won't need a lot of megapixels, so getting an older camera with 5 megapixels and a better lens/snappier response time will make you a lot happier than that new 8 megapixel model they'll try to sell you. |

The best compacts are generally Canon imo.
You have two main choices of compact, the ultra compact Ixus cameras that are smaller, more expensive and have their own type of battery, or you can go for the slightly larger Powershot series that can take aa batteries and thus you can always pop into a shop if you run out of batteries; these can get in a jacket pocket easily, but a bit of a squeeze in a jean pocket, unlike the ixus which will fit in jean/shirt pockets. I would advise getting a model with its own viewfinder so you can conserve battery by turning off the lcd display.
cheap powershot; a570is (smallest), a720is (larger, better zoom), a650is (even larger, better quality, twistable lcd that can beuseful))
ixus: (these model names differ in the US) ixus 75 (smallest, cheaper earlier model) ixus 950 (larger, newer) ixus 960 (larger newer)
goto www.dpreview.com for user reviews on almost any camera.
Also bare in mind that there are loads of other good compacts made by fuji (cheap, good, good in low light often) panasonic (cheaper than canon, take great photos, some people swear by em), nikon and many others including more expensive makes if you are feeling flush.
Bear in mind that usually people are fanboys of a particular make so try to go with the camera that feels good in size, usability and has good reviews (preferably look at the user reviews too)
You're more confused than when you started now aren't you lol!! |

I've been looking at the F50.
Some people are hammering it for lower Photo Quality when compared
with the F31, but nobody beats the F31 for Photo quality. Can't buy the
F31 anymore so the F50 is probably the best you can do. There was a
review I read that said it's still the best in it's class and dollar for dollar
you can't do any better.
I'm heading stateside in a couple of weeks and will probably buy it on Amazon.
There's a $50 Fuji rebate good through March somewhere on the internet.
I have the PDf file.
I was also considering the Panny TZ3 and FX55.
The Cannons were all too pricey, but I might still buy the SD850.
I really wish the Finepix Z100 was available at a fine price.
Also the Finepix F60 is about to be announced. |

I bought the Finepix F50.
At amazon for $225US (that would be 225,000KRW).
I couldn't find this camera in Korea for less than 300,000KRW.
I also discovered the Finepix Z100 at BestBuy for $250US.
It was a disappointment not quite as this as I expected,
but still quite good looking.
The Finepix F50 is living up to be a good quality camera.
It functions well within my photo taking abilities.
The 12 megapixels may be a little overkill, but I can crop out all kinds of crap I didn't intend to have in my pictures.
Takes really good indoor shots. |
