Gyeongju. Take 2 days. One day for Bulguksa and the other famous temple (avoid the "sea tomb"), and for the city parks with the hilly tombs. The other day for hiking Namsan and seeing the relics strewn along the trail.

In Seoul itself, the view from Namsan Tower (if it's not snowing too heavy), & Gyeongbukgung Palace.

I thought Munmu's Sea Tomb was okay, but I went in summer. I wouldn't bother in winter. The Seokguram Grotto on top of the Hill near Gyeongju, & Cheomseongdae, would both have a higher priority on my list.

Here's my year in Korea in Pictures:

What are your interests?

I went to Freedom Park and the Seodaemun Prison Museum Friday and really enjoyed it, actually.

If you have a car, Bukak (sp?) skyway is gorgeous.

Are you only thinking Seoul?

i have been all over Korea and these would be my top 5(predictable as they may be)

1. Gyeongju(make it a few days) - korean history all in one small city that is easy to get around. perhaps the only tourist friendly city in the country.

2. Seoraksan - so many different beautifulwalks you can do, just don't go in peak seasons.

3. Independence Museum of Korea near Cheonan. - amazing structure and very interesting, even if it is all one-sided. Much better than the national museum.

4. Jeju - people love it or hate it but if you can manage to go in about may it is great with no people. get a car and drive or ride a bike around the whole island. Some great scenery.

5. Downtown seoul - from myongdong to gyeongbukgung it is all old and new. get some good walking shoes but well worth the trek.

You can get a cab to take you up there, sometimes, but getting down sucks b/c no one wants to drive up to get you. You can hike all over that area, too.

Go where Queen Elizabeth II went: Andong.

I know you asked about Seoul but you really need to see some of the country and the intercity buses are very comfortable, roomy, convenient and cheap! And if you never stayed in a minbak, it's an experience everyone should do at least once or twice!

If you want to experience traditional Korean music, you could watch a performance at Chongdong Theater near City Hall. It costs around 20,000 won for the cheap seats ( I think all the seats are good). Other places have performances too, but I haven't seen them yet.

The DMZ Tour with the USO is worth it.
