Why should we have to go through all of this bs to
confirm our degress when: (a) it is not our job, it is immigration's job, and (b) what could cost us 1000's of dollars in airfare, hotels and all the legal stuff when immmigration can do it in seconds for almost nothing, or nothing?

A few years ago we had to give to immigration for the office of the registrar for the schools from where we graduated: (a) telephone number, (b) fax number, (c) e-mail address, and (d) surface mail address.

It is not our job to confirm the degrees, it is immigration's job. And with all of the 1000's of Koreans who graduate with a degree in English every year in Korea, you think they could hire a few people who only need to be able to say (if by phone) or write (if by e-mail, surface mail, or fax): "Did XXXXX receive XXXX degre from you in (date?). And all they need to be able to understand (if by phone is yes/ no) or be able to read if by email surafce mail or fax is "yes/no".

Immigration do your job, and we will do our job, "TEACH". I have BA MA and Phd, and I will be damned if I am going to spend all summer and 1000's of dollars to do what you can do in minutes for free. So, I am leaving. 9 years is enough. Mad

bingo. tell them that such work is outside the parameters of your visa and thus illegal. if they insist, get a lawyer and sue them for making you work illegally.

It's not immigration's job either. The rules are a violation of individual rights and should be eliminated completely. They are a barrier to free trade.

All they do is prevent Koreans from having the english instruction that they demand through the market. By the government putting barriers to foreign labour entry, Koreans are less educated than they would like to be. In effect, the government policy is a pro-ignorance one by limiting educators.

Hear, hear. Furthermore, the government bureaucracy's hostility to private English schools is just another example of Korea's increasing reluctance to fully participate in and benefit from the global maketplace. And I cannot see the new president makign any difference since his conservatism amounts only to support of creaking conglomerates and nostalgic populism.

OP, welcome to being a minority. Stinks, yeh? There's plenty of minorities in your own country, more skilled than you, who can't get a job anywhere near their skill level. Put your dummy back in and put yourself in their position. Quit moaning.
