JeeezzUUUZ!

I can't remember what thread I read this on but some guy was saying how he took his wife and Mother-in-Law out for an Indian and her only comment was that Korean curry is more delicious.

WTF!

I like Korean food, but don't pretend that you can make curry, people.

Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Thai curry is infinitely better.

Once again, I like most Koren food, but it isn't the best in the world.

Jeffkim Come on down!

Last semester I mentioned I like Indian food. Some of my students went online and found Samakhan, in Seohyun, and took me there for dinner. I loved it; they said it was some of the best food they'd ever had. We went back several times.

Curry is good. Often it's not so great. My next door neighbors growing up were originally from Guyanna and they cooked with curry from there. THAT was good! And roti with dampouri(sp? - like yellow chic peas inside the roti).

Korean Curry is originally Japanese Curry. If you want to complain about curry, do it to the Japanese.

Isn't the story that Japan had a lot of Indian traders in its ports living there. Japanese people liked the curry but it was too spicy so they made their own version of it. Consequently Koreans copied it.

there is still argument about the origins of the word curry (note only the word not the dish) whether it is tamil or english. If you have been to england, the word as well as indian food in general is incredibly wide-spread. Since both Japan and Korea use the english word for curry (kari raisu), it does offer up questions as to where and when they acquired the dish. http://www.menumagazine.co.uk/book/curryhistory.html

i'd say i prefer the brands of japanese curry i've tried to the absolute rubbish that is ottogi curry. japan wins this petty battle of bad food conversions.

umm i guess korea beats the philippines for spaghetti.

The curry roux you buy in those rectangular boxes in the store are Japanese. I was pleasantly surprised, after living in Japan for over 6 years, to find that product here. Oh what I would give for a CoCo Ichiban here in Korea...
