|
|
I'm about to leave for Korea again, and am thinking about taking an extra suitcase this time. If I do this, does anyone know when I'd pay? I'm taking two flights...one local flight with AA, then connecting on Korean Air for the international flight.
It makes sense that I'd pay before the 1st flight, but then again...AA isn't taking them overseas, Korean Air is.
Anyone know? Also, how much it might be? |

Will you have to collect your luggage when you change flights?
If your suitcase is hugely heavy, like another 20/30kg, you will definitely have to pay Korean Air. AA might charge you - depends on their policy, you need to check.
IF you do not need to collect your luggage and check them in again, then I think you will only need to pay once.. otherwise, you have to pay both airlines. |

At your 1st point of check-in most likely. Will you be checking your bags all the way through? |

Money wise check them through without having to reclaim them during your transfer to KAL. Normally, the first carrier will charge just for their "service". If that fails, you will have to recheck and KAL will charge by the pound over normal check-in limits. You will need to go to their website for baggage limitations and excess fees. |

According to AA, you are allowed 2 pieces of checked baggage and 1 hand luggage. Maximum weight for your checked bags is 50 lbs/23 kgs and
40 lbs/18 kgs for carry on. Same applies to international travel.
As for Korean Air... their policy is Two pieces of baggage provided that the dimensions (the sum of the length, height, and width) of each bag do not exceed 158 cm (62 in.), the weight of each bag does not exceed 23 kg (50 lbs), and further, that the sum of the dimensions of the two bags does not exceed 273 cm (107 in.).
I am assuming you are only going to take 2 bags? Or are you talking about 3??? |

I'm considering a 3rd bag, because I know international flights allow up to 2.
Hmm, I don't know if I have to claim my bags and recheck them for the 2nd flight. I wonder if I have a choice in the matter? |

Every carrier has their own rules. Call AA and KAL or check their website. |

I'd call the airline directly, but most likely if you have extra luggage you are going to have to pay an arm and a leg for them to put it on the plane. |

I would consider myself well travelled - been doing it, alone, since I was 12!
The detailed info is from the two airlines' respective websites. Easy enough to find. |

Both my bags were like 40kg's when I flew to Korea. I paid an extra $15 because my bags were over the limit.
It doesn't matter if your 1kg or 10 kg's over the limit. You pay the same amount. |
