Watching Thompson on C-Span.
It's very clear why he's running so poorly.
He's in a small family living room in Iowa on national TV. Most candidates wear the jeans and the 'Iowa look'. Thompson has a shiny black suit on, standing up talking at farmers in a little Iowa farmhouse.
Listening to his words, "I have a plan to save Welfare. Or I should say Medicare". Actually everything he says is NOT connecting, he sounds like a teenager who is trying to make a mock speech of what Republicans are suppose to say, but can't remember all the points.
Ah, he's horrible to listen to.
Once he quickly exhausted repeating Republican rhetoric, he quickly went to Law & Order and all the great amazing things he's done in his real life and how amazing he is, yet he's still the same person as he was when he was driving some red pickup truck once. Horrible speech.

Fred strikes me as a man who believed his Hollywood agent's hype. He entered the race expecting the public to fall all over him and when it didn't happen, he doesn't know what to do or how to act. He should fold up his tent, slink back to Hollywood and beg to get his old job back. |

The major media didn't help much. Fred Thompson cover shots all over mass media magazines, etc.
Watching Fred Thompson and what a great 'hope' he was prior to running, shows how lost the Republicans really are.
Listening to Fred Thompson must be a nightmare for diehard Republicans. He represents nothing, yet he's a Senator.
Another funny part of his speech. He was going on about how no one really knows anything factual about the environment so it doesn't make sense to make laws to protect it. He suggests we need to spend massive amounts of money to really understand our effects on the environment. It's going to cost us, but he really recommends us so that we don't waste taxpayer money protecting it.
Uggh. Funny that people actually listen to this stuff and give him support - or do they? I don't think they really do, they are just Law & Order fans. |

My all-time favorite quote from a Republican 'environmentalist': "If you've seen one red wood tree, you've seen 'em all." R. Reagan |

Maybe he'd be doing better if the writers weren't on strike? |

I don't think the suit is the problem. Obama wore a suit the whole time and he's doing fine. Edwards put on the "white trash costume" and it didn't do much to help him. In fact it seemed to put off a lot of people.
Fred's problem was hype. As in, that's all he was, and is.
Republican's need to get over Ronald Reagan. He wasn't that great, it just so happens that the 1980's where very good for Republicans. Converting from actor to politician isn't going to make you a viable candidate, no matter how much you "read up" on China. |

1980s were good for Republicans? So why didn't they control Congress?
Reagan wasn't perfect, but he did bring back optimism to this country. It was in the dumps when he came into office, and feeling #1 again when he left office. That's something. |

I guess in my head Republican and extremely rich are synonymous. The 80's were very good for the extremely rich. |
