I was just wondering if anyone knows if we are entitled to unemployment benefits in Korea?

Thanks,

If youre on an E2 visa, no. No employer = no visa sponsor = byebye.

Why do you ask? Dont let your boss deduct anything towards unemployment benefits.

I understand that the one month severance pay at the end of one year is Korea's unemployment plan based on your average earnings for the last 3 months. If you worked for an employer for 2 years, then you should get 2 months of pay.

That's correct IN MOST CASES. However, some private colleges may be excluded from this requirement, I've found out. I worked for one for 2 years and recently left. I get NO severence pay. Private colleges that opt for a private pension plan instead of the national one, don't have to pay severence pay. Mad

My first year here, I did not know about Dave's ESL Cafe and I paid unemployment to the hagwon. It was deducted from my pay. Even though I protested several times, my director just told me not to be unemployed. He is now broke and driving an academy "car", so I have a sense of satisfaction.
