The poster who mentioned that religion part struck a cord with me. Even though I am spiritual, when people mention God and this stubborn fashion and that God told them to do this, it reminds me of some closed-minded people, and the woman's ideas didn't really ad to the movie. It almost makes it seem in the end as if it was God's plan that Will Smith die in the movie, and through the grace of God, he sacrificed himself like Jesus, so we could all live. I think Jesus is awesome, but the Biblical influence in the movie seems heavy and overkill, maybe.
What do you think? |

| He didn't have to kill himself. That was a dumb move on his part. |

Remember, though, when the zombies started to attack his house and he flipped on those big flood lights? A few zombies died but there were so many that they just kept coming. I got the impression that throwing the grenade wouldn't be anything but a temporary distraction, which raises a few more questions:
* Did he put the woman and boy into a safe of some sort? If so, how was it that they could get out but that the zombies couldn't get in? Why didn't Will Smith just get in there with them? |

This was the technical flaw. I noticed too. If Smith could lock the woman and boy into the coal chute, how could they let themselves out? And why couldn't more zombies come, open the door and eat them? Anyway, doesn't matter. It's a movie. Not a scientific document. |

Fuckin rights it matters!
With the prices we pay to go to movies, the techonology and production involved, and writing, this sloppiness should never happen.
The movie sucked sheit. |

Yeah, why would they leave out details? It's not like they have to spend too much time on confirming some things in the story. Kind of takes you out of the movie instead of making you feel like a part of it.
You can't really use the "you're supposed to use your imagination" excuse. |

Caught it tonight. Never read the book but loved Omega Man as a child. Scared the crap out of me.
This version.
1) I felt like they left about half of the movie out. The movie was about 90 minutes long.
2) Will Smith tooling around in the muscle car but then for the rest of the movie he uses the jeep. Other than maybe an homage to Omega Man, not sure what that was about.
3) Who set the trap? The chick wasn't out to get him. The vampire zombies displayed no ability to use tools. IMDB says it was zombies. But then maybe the should have shown us the zombies were capable of some tool use.
4) In Omega man Heston is white and the chick is black. In this version, the Smith is black and the chick is white. They don't pork in this movie.
5) The movie had a budget of $150 million. Where did they spend that money? The CGI was pretty standard. We had limited sets. A handful of actors.
6) In the Omega Man version, the zombies had a culture and a religion. It would have been nice to see something like that.
I dunno. The movie needed more. I liked how they delayed introducing the zombies. Played up the suspense. |
(1)Omega man delt with themes of interacial marriage at a time when it was still considered taboo.
(2) In Omega man it was less obvious when a person first got infected. This created a lot more suspence.
(3) In Omega man the zombies were a lot more creepy and cultish. I would compare them to those bizzare mutants that appeared worshipping the bomb in the subway in Beneath the Planet of the Apes, |

i watched it on new year's day. (discount!!)
i thought it was a pretty good movie. and, they're vampires, not zombies.
zombies don't really seem to care that much about the sunlight...if i remember correctly.
the leader copied the trap that will smith used to catch the infected chick.
i think that smith killed himself because:
1- they were after him, by orders(?) of their leader. if he's gone, they have no reason to keep going into the house.
2- his wife, kid and dog are all dead.
3- he said a number of times that nyc was HIS place, it was ground zero and that he wasn't going to leave.
i don't think he locked them in the safe. if they could get out, then the
lock was probably on the inside. possibly a place for him to escape to if he needed to.
as for the lights around his house, i think that the pack leader just taught them how to take them down. they took them down by jumping into the shadowed area and pushing them down.
will smith in the tub? i'm guessing because he probably slept there from time to time because it felt like a safe area? he was in his bed later...
i laughed at the bacon part.
anyways, good movie, imo. and scary too. |
