I'm pretty new to life as an F-2 visa holder. I'm completing my final year of a 3 year stint at a decent university, and am leaving because of a 3 year policy. I spent a couple of other years at another. Anyway, about month ago I got my F-2 visa and I found what was a pretty good job to replace my current one. I then went in to sign my contract. I had filled out numerous applications for universities around Seoul at the time and was pretty happy with my choice. Of course, I had to make some quick decisions at the time, because I wasn't sure if the positions would be pulled off the table if I didn't sign within the week of being offered the positions.
Now what I'm asking is this... in the past on an E-2, signing that contract really had me in a bind if any other positions came along, and now I wonder if that same bind exists for me? I've since had more universities ask me to come into interviews which could possibly be better than where I will work, and I've said I've already signed with another... but am I really bound to that like I may have been before? Could I simply go to the other interviews and then simply say I've changed my mind about the university I just signed a contract with... especially if the contract and terms were better? I know this might seem iffy on ethical level, but I've spent 5 years in universities and just want to feel I've done the very best I could. Perhaps some of you have thoughts.

That's a 'yes' that I am not bound to my contract whereas I may have been before F-2, and should keep looking if I want? And do you really know if a signed contract can just be abandonned and another signed?

Yes - but if you signed you will still need to give the required notice in the contract. I know from experience.

Not if the contract period hasn't started you do not.

If the contract period is from March 1st, and you signed today. You can break that contract before you start working.

I've had people with E2s do that in the past, F2 should be even easier.

I'd disagree. I'm not well-versed in law, but you can still be held to any contracts you signed. I would think it'd be harder for an F2 to break a contract because you actually have ties to Korea whereas an E2 could skip the country.

I don't think they could do anything to you before the period of the contract starts, but you could probably be sued for breach of contract if you didn't honor it.

NOTICE: I use the word "probably" a lot because I'm not positive nor trained in this area. I'm just using a bit of common sense and logic.
