I keep hearing of all the underground clubs and whatnot in Hongdae and so far have come across a couple places that just play local bands. I'm wondering if anyone knows good sites or even a bar/club that plays or has shows in regards to experimental music.

Genres like: IDM, ambient/noise/drone, post-rock, freak-folk, or hell anyplace that plays other things other than the typical (pop, k-pop, club bangers, jazz, 80s, 90s).

I've found places in the states, Europe, and Japan...but my search in Korea has been disappointing so far.

Or maybe a place that might be interested in new types of music? I DJed a bit back in the states and would like to maybe get a gig playing some tunes here.

But then again, I am in Korea, where the Lego(tm) haircut rules the day.

Not sure if it's up your alley, but the American hardcore band terror is coming this weekend.

I posted about it here.

Of course I can't vouch for Terror but you'd be hard pressed to find a band in Korea that can rival the Geeks on stage. For some reason this country does this new school hardcore stuff right.

here are some links to people who do experimental music in seoul. the stuff i have seen has been live performance and not so much DJing.

http://www.bulgasari.com/
http://www.balloonnneedle.com/
http://www.themanual.co.kr/relay/

and a lot of stuff has been going on at this art gallery (experimental music and art)

http://www.yogiga.com/

it is a pretty small community of artists and at all of the shows i tend to see the same people over and over (some foreigners) but they are fun and are the most interesting thing i have experienced in seoul since i arrived a month ago.

i hope you find this helpful and maybe i will see you at the next event.

and yeah i like all of the genres you listed, send a message if you want to nerd out on music sometime.

Just got this in my mailbox~~

A Happy New Year!
I have two gigs at Yogiga gallery this weekend. One is experimental music event Bulgasari, another is my acoustic singing live. If you have time, please come and enjoy!

☆ Bulgasari 2008 New Year Live! ☆
1/5(sat) PM5:00 Hong-dae Yogiga Gallery Tel.02-3141-2603
http://yogiga.com
Hirano Masahiro (Butoh from Japan), Sato Yukie, Lee Han Joo, etc

☆ Sato Yukie acoustic live! ☆
1/6(sun) PM6:00 Hong-dae Yogiga Gallery Tel.02-3141-2603
http://yogiga.com
Sato Yukie with Yano Toshihiro(mandolin)&Ito Koki(per)

http://www.yogiga.com/yukie

Sato Yukie is the MC for shows at Yogiga, he also does some pretty crazy stuff with rubber duckies and guitars. Shows there are hit-or-miss and tend to more subdued than noise shows back home. In any case, I recommend checking it out, everyone is really nice.

But someone beat me to the punch, looks like.

Where are you located at? I have a friend who DJs good music at a bar near Dehwa, but I'm way out in Yangpyeong, myself.

I feel your pain.
