I was looking at Taiwan and it seems you can live there so cheaply that you can be pretty much a King over there if not an emperor. Is their tax rate as low as S Korea's (3%)? How would you rank their women in comparison to other Asian countries? There meals I have read can be bought for a dollar (American) or so and you could live off of 5 dollars a day in terms of food. Sounds pretty tight to me. Anyone been there that likes it? Any advice? |

The grass is not greener.
From most of everything I've ever heard: The only place other than South Korea for the multitude of ESL teachers to save a lot of money is the Middle East. |

You know, I once applied to be the king's assistant, just to get in with the sex slaves... but they would only let me be a right-hand man. |

Taiwan is a very dirty, corrupt, and quite racist society. |

Since I'm here, the benefits obviously outweigh the negatives. Still, one could say the same about Korea. |

i've done china, taiwan and now korea. taiwan was nice money, but when you add up korea's perks (airfare, free housing, pension) the scales tip to korea if you come financial reasons.
PM if you want to know more. |

I looked into Taiwan in the past and it didn't seem worth it to me. I have to agree by the time you add in airfair and other stuff, Korea is better. As someone else said, the Middle East is the only one that might pay more. |

The NET scheme in HK looks extremely profitable and you get to live in Hong Kong. You need a teaching certificate and a Tefl certificate though. |

Rank according to what? Physical appearance? General willingness to date foreigners? Glossiness of their coats? Maybe you should leave some guidelines. I'm not sure others on the board know how to respond to that question.

It's a pretty straight forward question and I would guess that every single male knows what he's talking about. Don't be bitter. |

I don't think it's so shallow, really. He's not talking about a potential date, he's asking about a place he might live in for an extended period of time.
Seems reasonable he would want to know about it. I would. |

For the time being~
After March 15th, when these supposed regulations start to take effect, you might see alot of your savings go down the drain if you factor in time out-of-work waiting for the CRC and medical checks and other out-of-pocket expenses that a person might incur during this transition.
Also, does Taiwan have restricted banking at some of their bank branches that happens in Korea?
From what I gather about Taiwan, the schools are mostly responible for the validity of their teachers' credentials before they are submitted to their immigrations office.
From simply looking at a map, the one good perk I can see from working in Taiwan is that it is very close to Hong Kong (great shopping), Macau (good gambling) and the Philippines (lovely beaches) |
