Yeah, I'm just looking for a half-decent toy store. I tend to find goofy little cho-nun purchases really good for the class--case in point, those sticky golden pigs you've been seeing in the subway lately? Those are amazing for vocab games (letting the kids throw the pig at the board).
So, I'm doing a camp with my program and need the inspiration of a good toystore, but places like E-mart are really half-assed, and that place in CoEx is pretty lame too.
Any Toy's 'r Us's around? |

I think it's strictly online gaming for the kids in Korea... No one plays with real toys anymore. |

according to a travel guide i perused, there's supposed to be a huge building filled with toy related stuff in Dongdaemun. i don't know if it's still there or what kind of stuff it stocks, but that's what i've read and heard as well.
wouldn't mind getting my hands on some of the newer Transformers stuff.
if you're looking for anime toys, there a few stores around Seoul (one in Yongsan for example) that specializes in them.
and there's a toy museum in Samcheon-dong i believe. |

One place in Dongdaemun is "Toy Alley"...I finally made my pilgramige there a few months back...but it was a bust. I was imaginging that there would be a huge variety of stuff, and lots of educational-type stuff like building and science kits...but it was all cheap plastic crap. A few neat things here and there, but every shop had the same things, and they looked like toys that would be fun for about 5 minutes... |

Does anyone have REALLY good directions to this "Toy Alley"? Today was my third try looking around for it. Thanks in advance... |

Toys R Us did open, December 8th. It's pretty awesome. Not as big as a toysrus at home, but still good. It's got toys, video games, board games, and an English books/tapes/cd section.
I'm guessing Guil would be the nearest subway station. It's in the basement of the Lotte building with a new sports store. (Where B and Q USED to be ) |

Just saw the sign today, Toys R Us is opening in COEX, near the food court, on the 12th or 18th, not exactly sure. |

Toy Alley Directions:
Dongmyo Station (line 6)
Go out the exit ACROSS THE STREET from Exit 5. I don't remember the exit number for sure, but I think it's 6. Just check the map when you get there.
When you come out of the exit go straight, then turn right down the first little street you come to. On weekends I think it's bigger with street vendors and whatnot, but you should be able to see it right away. It's on that street.
Good luck! |
