Gopher,
I don't need to crack any book to call that movie pure and utter glorification of violent means/ends.
It honours those who bend the rules. It honors covert missions unauthorized by THE PEOPLE. It sustains the notion terribly set into the wind by Bush that governments run by "sub committees" can take military action without consent.
Further propaganda is the idea that America is noble, just and right. The little 1 min afterthought at the end was a disservice and not the message at all. That made it even more sickening.
I don't care if Charlie got a thousand medals and 99 virgin cheerleaders at the penthouse mansion in the sky. What he did was horrible and how the movie portraited it was pure pap, never addressing the evil therein.
Russians are just simple barbarians, Israelis just Jews ready to sell their souls for money, Pakistanis just simpletons, not a word from a mujahadeen in the movie other than endless images of them cheering with bloodlust..... need I go on.
You are right to point out the inaccuracies but you should also point out that the movie is patriotic dribble. Everyone should cry out when Hollywood for the sake of the box office, rewrites history with the stars and stripes.

"The evil therein...barbarians...bloodlust." ROFL.
Thanks for your usual self-righteous opinion, Michael Moore. I can see your veins and eyes bulging as you write; I can also hear you speaking barely under control. Sorry to hear you disagree with the way the film "portraited" Charlie Wilson.
C'est la vie. Take it to Wolf Blitzer...
You allege that Congressional subcommittees (why do you write that word in scare-quotes, as if subcommittees do not really exist?) take military action without consent? What? These are Congressional committees doing exactly what the constitution authorizes and charges Congressmen to do. Congress authorizes and funds military action and covert operations. "The people" elect them every two years. Ours is a republican political system -- and this is how such systems function. What part of that do you not grasp?
By the way, "Hollywood" did not write this story. And if you believe that this film argues or even suggests that "America is noble, just, and right," then I do not believe you have seen this film. |
