The Japanese are a rather nasty bunch of racist, anally retentice toxic dwarves. That is the good part of their national character. |

My favirite quote from this video happened at the 5:15 mark:
Quote: |
"We, the Chinese and Japanese, must at times slap them like a child..." |
This was in response to the Koreans claims of Confucious, Sea of Japan, ect... |

Funny, I've met lots of Japanese around the world often married to local nationals in countries such as Kenya. The can't be that racist. Jealous nations often bitterly hate more successful ones, just look at anti-Americanism. Having lived in both countries I can honestly say the Japanese don't usually rise to Korean anti-Japanese hatred and are honest about the routes of the many foreign parts of there own culture. They don't believe they invented Kanji.
Like I said before; Koreans have had this coming to them. That said I know plenty of Koreans who find the nationalistic posturing of some of their countrymen as absurd as I do. Funniest thing about all of this is the fact that Korea and Japan have more in common with eachother than they do any other countries. |

I was at a bar in Beijing last spring and I was talking to this Chinese reporter.
I went on to ask him how he and the Chinese people for that matter feel about the his neighbours.
His most nasty remarks were for the Koreans, particulary the South Koreans.
He basically went on how they always boast about themselves and act petty.
It was really interesting to hear (not that I agree with all of it) because this guy sounded like many of the posters on this board.
So basically the gripes many of us have on this board is not limited to English teachers. Others feel it too.
I guess we're not alone
But I still got love for the Koreans |

I have a cousin who married a Canadian born Japanese girl. His family accepted her immediately. Her family took nearly 20 years to accept him.
Their complaint was that he wasn't Japanese. When the Japs learn to be a little less arrogant, I may change my view. |

Korean claims that, for example, Confucius was Korean and that Koreans invented the Chinese writing system. |
I would like to see proof of such claims...
Considering that historically Korea accepted China as its "older brother" and viewed Chinese culture as an example....
This changed in the 20th century but the foundation remains. Korea did not invent confucianism but it adapted it to its own culture...same goes for the language issue.
If some Koreans claim Confucious was Korean, they need their heads examined...but I seriously doubt such a stupid claim has beene made.... |

Koreans do claim a lot of wacky stuff, but from what I remember from Occidentalism.org's original post, the claims on hanja/medicine/Confucius/China were pretty extreme (although of course some academics did agree with them). Like I said, Koreans do spew their share of garbage, but let's not get too worked up about this.
Obviously, based on the presentation on this TV program, it's not a huge deal for anyone outside of petty Asian-Americans. If anything, the video showed me that certain Japanese TV producers are incapable of illustrating a point without six different fonts, cartoons, and clashing colors. I was convinced the first three minutes were just a loop, because the same thing was being said over and over and over. Then to refute the argument they brought it "Confucius' 75th-generation decendant," or whatever . . . as if that's a verifiable source and not some town drunkard that sells Confucius magnets. And two generations ago, a Chinese person saying he's related to Confucius would likely find himself in the bottom of a ditch with a bullet in his head, so let's not get all indignant about stealing China's culture, or anything. Remember, they threw it away.
Get a grip. That was just some talking head tabloid program. And let's not make believe we can take lessons in moderation or tolerance from the Japanese or Chinese, because we've witnessed how those efforts have turned out in the past. |

Once I was looking up dresses in our encyclopedia, and it was one of the categories of dresses. Just picture the dresses that they would wear ( I want to say Victorian dresses, but Im probably wrong) but the top is cut so low that you can see the tops of the nipples, but not the entire thing. |

The first vid was a bit crude and tabloid-like. The second vid did have some good points - especially when he said "if they make too many of these strange statements..it kind of makes them look bad".
However, the "miniature China" remark was arrogant and demonstrated why the Japanese are also reviled in Asia. |
