Cross yourself, show them a picture of Mary, they get the idea.

Not a 'sign' per se, but should do the trick...

(It's for Jehovah's Witnesses, but should do work with Mormons too!)

I've had Mormons knock on my door in 5 or 6 US states, and 2 foreign countries. They have been unfailingly polite, non-aggressive and pleasant. They have responded to my "Thanks for coming by, but I'm really not interested," with a smile, and a polite good-bye.

JW are a different story. But where the Mormons are concerned, and as one poster mentioned they are easily recognized by black and white clothing and a name badge, why not be polite? The WILL leave you alone if you're not interested, why claim otherwise?

Two routes seem to work fairly well against LDS/Mormon missionaries.

#1 - be polite and frank - "I am not interested in your message and I have my own beliefs that will not be shaken by conversing with you or your group. Please do not bother me again"

#2 - be offensive - not that this the 2nd best choice, just the one that seems to work the second best/tried the most often. You can have rainbows being a picture of a religious figure of your choice abusing a small child. Find a way to state that you are a "excommunicated" Mormon. Or better yet, post Scientology signs in your windows or something.

Do not attack them, they have no intention of harming you; they are much like the people passing out free samples of things you don't like at a supermarket.

Ambush? I was right, you really do need to get a grip. For the last time, the LDS missionaries do take no for an answer.

Well the existence of rules doesn't imply that everyone keeps them. Catholic priests are a case in point. Are there zero incidents of premarital sex in the church of LDS? I'm sure that there are plenty of cases of people breaking those rules too. Add in some language and cultural differences and I'm sure that there will be at least a few mormons who do push and don't say no.

I'd just like to mention that the signs with the crosses won't work for Mormons, as they do not use the cross as a symbol of their religion. They might actually take that as an invitation.

CentralCali,

I was hoping you'd enter this thread cause I knew you were a Mormon and was interested to hear what you'd say. I'm surprised, though, that you've been so focused on the rules of Mormon evangelism, constitutionality, and whether or not this lady was an official missionary or not. Why not just PM bassexpander, ask him whereabouts generally he lives, and then contact the ward leader (not sure what to call that person) and tell them that there is a rogue church member out there being overly aggressive? Seems to me this would say a lot more about the virtues of Mormonism than your responses thus far.

This applies ony to the missionaries (both Korean and foreign). The "rogue" believers may or may not be so accomodating.

It is evident from bassexpander's follow-up posts that (a) it was not LDS missionaries, or (b) he's making up the whole thing. Why don't you take up the issue of accuracy with him? While you're about it, you can talk to a couple of other posters in this thread who posted asinine assertions and remarks.

The Ward Leader is called a Bishop and he is assisted by two counselors. The missionaries are not only under his authority but also the authority of their Mission President. Where I am, I am the 2nd Counselor to the Bishop of my Ward.

Good lord, this thread is still going. Cali, you can bitch about Mormon rules all you want, but it's not going to change anyone's mind. Everyone knows that rules get broken, so your constant harping about it isn't helping your case any. Korean Christianity and "Western" Christianity are very different animals. Just because Mormons in America follow certain rules doesn't mean K-Mormons will follow the same rules (whether or not they're supposed to).

I had a couple of Korean JW walk up to me at the bus stop a week ago and ask where I was going. Then they told me they wanted to talk to me about their religion and give me a brochure and I said no thanks. In four years, I think it's only the second time I've been approached for something like that.

Actually, the Korean LDS missionaries do follow the same rules as the LDS missionaries do everywhere else in the world. It's not for nothing that they're assigned in pairs, trained well, monitored, and re-assigned on a periodic basis.

And I don't care what you or anyone else thinks they know about how my group does its proselytizing. I posted the facts for those who may be persuaded by the obvious lies about the situation.

That'll keep them away.

Set traps, like leave the door cracked open before you go to sleep and put a barrel full of bricks on top.

If it kills them its their fault for breaking into your apartment uninvited. Fair game. Razz

Its not like religious nuts are real people anyway.
