Isn't that one of the things that Ron Paul's been saying?
How long has the Huckster been pitching this?
Kinda makes him stand out from the rest of the *yawn* "candy-dates" |

Funny, I didn't hear any "Bible thumping" in that interview.

Huckabee is unqualified to be Governor of Arkansas much less President. |

When I read things about people tinkering/dismantling the tax system, I'm always reminded of Kennedy's 'Decline and Fall of Great Powers'. One of the characteristics is that a government can't get at the national wealth. Think of the French government in the 18th Century. Kept getting itself into wars with the English but couldn't pay for them. Parliament was better at tapping into its national resources than the French kings. |

Well, you are reminded of it because you are totally, 100%, fully and completely ignorant of how an economy functions, how a tax system functions or how altering taxation can change incentives and expand an economy.
If you think that "tinkering" with a taxation regime should remind one of the collapse of an empire you are, and I mean this with all due respect (none), more ignorant than I previously thought. |

And what does this have to do with the interview or the tax system? |

So if he dismantles the IRS, who's going to collect the taxes under his new system?
Just asking. |

Apparently he suggests a 'consumption tax' which will take place of an 'income tax'.
What he means exactly by 'consumption tax' is a mystery. Does that mean buying a house will include enormous taxes included? Who knows?
Most important, would he have any support whatsoever in DC to make that happen even if that really was a keystone part of his campaign. Plus is it a keystone? He discussed it briefly on Leno, so it must be something important to him. |

I assumed he meant a VAT. |

He said in the interview that it wouldn't be a VAT. He did call it a consumption tax with built-in reductions for people with low incomes. I'm not exactly sure how that all gets straightened out but anything beats the system we have nowl |

There is a clip on Yahoo News where he is speaking. Entitled "Huckabee: I Won on my Message"
It's a 'consumption' tax. You ONLY pay taxes at the point of retail sales.
Apparently he is also calling it a 'fair tax' where you untax the poor and elderly with this system. Hmm. He's calling that a 'prebate'.
An amount of money comes back to taxpayers who can't afford to pay the consumption tax, in some kind of tax refund from what I understand from this interview. |
