Thinking of booking that last second trip with a friend of mine. Quick questions:

any airfare recommendations? I know the prices will be jacked up - so it goes, fits with the expensive Tokyo motif.

will everything (nearly everything) be open? Am I right in getting the sense that it's not as big a deal as it is in China?

Any hostel/hotel recommendations would be great, too.

Thanks, and good luck with all your plans, everyone!

hostelworld.com has always been a good bet for me.

i'm pretty sure lunar new year isn't even a calendar holiday in japan, so it will be business as usual...

i wanted to go myself, but yeah, found quotes of like 700,000 won for airfare.
