Wales is a new company. What you must becareful is that fact that many schools claim to be in Ilsan .However most of these schools are near Ilsan. And not in Ilsan. School often lie about being in Ilsan , but there are many foreigners and alot of foreigner friendly places. Life is quite easy in Ilsan.

I would try to find out the exact location .They often say Ilsan , but then it turns out to be PAJU or Tanhyun or Han shin dong

thanks for the quick reply!!

it was either Ilsan or Ulsan, which ever one is apparently 20 mins away on the subway from the centre of Seoul.

the recruiter seems nice, and there was no interview, that kind of worries me, but i'll have the contract emailed to me in the morning.

so which is closer to Seoul, Ilsan or Ulsan (or have i just made the second one up???)

no not a quick sale as im not getting there till march. got the contract a while ago and i dont like it. contract mentions nothing about holidays and what is included in the apartment.

its not in the centre of Ilsan either, its in Tanhyeon. and considering i cant seem to find that on a map, im not getting a good feeling about this job.

Tanhyeon is in Ilsan, although it's not in the center of town.

Wales Academy is an internationally recognised school in Ilsan, South Korea, following the Welsh national curriculum in Welsh- and English-language media. The school teaches from Kindergarten all the way up to A-levels. Students often go on the University of Wales, Bangor (12% of graduates), Aberystwyth University(14% of graduates) and Trinity College, Carmarthen (22% of graduates).

so do you think that would be a good school to go for??

i cant find it on any blacklists, so it doesnt seem to have a really bad reputation.

i dont mind living a bit out of the city, as long as i can get there without too much inconvenience!!!

the reason htat its not on any black lists is because its so new .The company is new.
New company= disorganization
new company = boss who cant deal with foreigners

tyanhyune is the slum of Ilsan. If you live there , you will probably get an old apartment. Maybe even a bug problem

From my experience , anytime a school claims to have a curriculam from here or there , it is usally bull shit!

Quote slightly edited

As a general example, There was a mom and pop store in Kuri City when I was there called Playboy, and no way would Playboy, Inc. agree to allow them to put its name on that store. In fact, I have a pair of socks with the Playboy logo on them, but I didn't see any reference to any official licensing or anything on the box.

ok, the bug thing is def putting me off. I have a massive fear of all things creepy crawly.

that can be sorted right tho??

Is it really considered the slum of Ilsan??

What i have been able to find out about the school is that Wales Academy opened a new branch in Ilsan about 2 months ago, its run by the brother of the guy who owns the company, there are 3 foreign teachers working there at the moment and they are hiring another 3 at the moment.

I may just be acting like a complete n00b but it doesnt sound too bad, 2,200,000 for 6 hours a day. The only thing that worries me now is that someone mentioned "slums" and "bug problems".

The money doesn't sound bad for those hours. You'll need to look at the balance of the contact terms to determine if the job is acceptable. You should ask for an opportunity to speak with one the current foreign teachers to see what they have to say about the school.

Tanhyeon is not the slum of Ilsan. It's just one of many small areas that make up the city of Ilsan. As for the 'bug problem" I'm not sure how anyone would be able to say that without first seeing your accomodations. Personally I don't think Tanhyeon is such a bad place. I work there and live about 5 minutes away by car. There are some older sections of Tanhyeon and some parts that are brand spanking new. Again, ask the current teachers about their apartments before you listen to someone here who thinks every apartment in Tanhyeon automatically has a bug problem.
