My first and I'm lovin' it. Seriously.

3 classes per day:

One of HS freshmen, about 50 of.
Play games. Make them smile. Teach some stuff. Check what they already know. Ease them in to the HS groove.

One class of 2nd graders. 7 of.
Excellent. The best of last years crop. Plenty of good interaction. Loads of laughs. Great 'relaxed' atmosphere.

One class of 1st graders. 3 of.
Superb. Real change from the 30 or so class sizes I'm used to. Plenty of one-on-one work. Real dialogue opportunities. Genuine enthusiasm.

Best of all, 4-hours of personal study time in between lessons one and two.

Two more weeks of this and then a couple of weeks off.

PS HS heaven.

I'm teaching two camps a day this week at two different schools. I'm teaching at a middle school this week and an elementary all of January. So far they have been a blast to teach so far.
With my elementary school I teach 2 hours a day for 5 days. On the fifth day I will show them a monie and have a test about the movie the next day of class.
At my middle school I will teach 3 classes, grade 1, 2, and 3.
The last week of January I will teach a county wide winter camp. Then I will have a six week vacation home.
My school owes me two weeks of vacation from when I renewed my contract.

Six week vacation? Nice.

That's the way to do it.

As a general rule, is it fair to say that when you renew your contract with PS, do they generally always give you some extra holiday? My contract doesn't end for another 6-months or so, but as I'm contracted for 28-days holiday per year (2 weeks winter, 2 summer) I was wandering if I can expect a vacation bonus if I resign.

i believe public schools are supposed to give u 2 weeks off in between contracts when u renew (my contract calls it home leave & they pay for me to fly home and back afterwards)

I had a week off, now I've got two weeks of two classes a day. All incoming freshmen. Good kids, so far. The summer/winter sessions always feel more like "real" school to me. I have more time to plan out classes and can really give them the lessons and attention I'd like to give them during the normal school year, when I've got 5-6 classes a day and 4 different lesson plans to be juggling at any given time.

So, is this in addition to any contracted holiday time? I'm due 2-weeks summer vacation so can I expect a month if I renew?

my contract says "In the case of renewal of this Contract pursuant to the foregoing ①, Employee shall be given two weeks for a home leave which shall take place 2 calendar weeks prior to the contract end date specified in Article 5 hereof until the day immediately preceding the commencement of the renewed term. This two weeks home leave will be counted as part of the contract term, and accordingly salary will be paid."

mine says i should take it 2 weeks before the end of my contract, i don't know if they would let u pair it back to back with your summer vacation. and it should be in addition to your contracted holiday time...

however it wouldn't surprise me if they tried to argue that it is part of your vacation days. but since it is the last 2 weeks of your last contract, when u start a new contract with a new starting date, u should have ___ working days of vacation for that contract year beginning from that date. hope that makes sense

Crystal. Thanks.

Basically, no 2-weeks extra holiday then no signee new contractee.

See if they can figure that one out, although I'm not sure how taking the whole of August off will sit with them.

I could not take my 2 week home leave after my contract, because my school started some night classes that is being paid my the kids parents. So I had to stay and teach to extra classes a night.
The school told me that I could add the 2 weeks home leave with my winter vacation.

Things just seem to get better and better at my HS.

I've just had 10-days off for xmas. Am doing the easy 3-weeks imaginable at the moment Got another 10-days at the end of Winter Camp. Come back for 2-days on the 4th Feb and then get 3-days off (plus weekend) for the Lunar New Year and now I've just been told that there is a spring break holiday around the 20th Feb.

Can anyone throw any light on the Spring Break vacation?
