A friend of mine is going to get a new job here. His father died though his first few months in Korea and he was down when he got back. He took anti-depressants from his doctor, used his medical insurance for the medicine. I think for a total of three months.
He doesn't want to report this on his medical check up and I don't blame him.
Are medical records confidential between doctor and patient here or once you get an anti-depressant do you go on a list and get your rejected for the new visa?
If that's the case that is sad. It's like the country is discouraging people from being health.
So sparkling. |

Medical privacy in Korea isn't taken seriously at all as it is within the West. Medical practitioners here will reveal personal & confidential information upon request without your permission. It is not uncommon to have your medical results sent to a 3rd party for evaluation of your fitness before you are even given the option to do so.
I would personally suggest you find a physician you trust, have him just write up a clean bill of health & provide that. It's actually very easy to arrange

The concept of "privacy" is one of them silly ideas foreigners bring with them that has no place in The Land Of The Morning Intrusion.
Best of luck to your friend. |

I'm think I'll tell him just to go do his medical at a hospital where his doctor isn't I guess. Hopefully they (the hospital or immigration) won't have access to what medicines he has purchased while here. |

I'd agree that privacy isn't one of those things that is important here, so you do need to becareful. It is possible to take medication and not have your school know about it. You just have to be very careful about who you choose as a doctor. Talk to the doctor directly about privacy issues.
If you are on a medication for depression, it is none of the school's or immigration's business. |
