Ha. Classic use of passive-voice subterfuge. And I hear Ronald Reagan's voice when I read this...
How does a Congressmen who claims he can lead a nation-state expect to win any credibility at all when he cannot even manage an obscure monthly newsletter? And is this any indication of what kind of people we could expect Ron Paul to surround himself with should he -- shudder -- some day sit in and then bring such dishonor to the Oval Office?
No matter. We Republicans are putting him down and we are putting him down hard this primary season. Call us any name you like, BJWD. It changes nothing. |
Did you know that Mike Huckabee's son killed a dog in cold blood?
Let's get back on topic here. |

Well, good for you.
The republican party is exactly a fascist (don't even need to use the word "neo" for it) party that is being constrained by a very well designed set of governmental institutions. If Canada had a party in charge for 8 like the republican party, we would become a fascist state quickly. That you and your idiot, mouth breathing, idiot party peers have not been able to totally destroy your country in the past 8 years is a testament to how well designed the American political system is.
But you won't be able to keep the judicial boot on the neck of the Christian fascists for ever. |

"Fervent" eh? Maybe. I like the guy but have major disagreements with him on some very key issues (abortion, for example). But more than that, I am stunned at the extent to which the mainstream has tried to marginalize him. Now, this is elscafe and yata and goper are just esl lifer losers, but they actually do fairly well represent the mainstream of the R&D parties. America has been a 2 party state for so long that Americans are less able to understand and respect ideas that fall outside of very narrow goalposts of 'legitimate opinion'.
In other words, my opinion that yata is a scumbag is stronger than my opinion that Ron Paul is not a good candidate. |
This looks like something pretty close to your view on the situation:

Hey peel,
What parts of the OP did you think were false? If the article was true, do you think we should overlook those problems and elect him anyway? Did you find the man portrayed in the piece admirable? |

I have no reason to believe any of it is false. If I had a signature on this site it would say "I support Ron Paul on the war, the war on drugs and some choice other fiscal areas but have major disagreements with him socially". I seem to have to keep repeating myself. And if you should elect him, well depends on who the other person running is.
Aside from that, he is not in any way running on a racist platform. He is running on a platform of individual rights, which is the opposite of racism. Obviously, if he were standing on a soapbox yelling about how black people are bad, scant few would support him.
But don't fear. He won't win. Huckabee might. Or "100 years in Iraq" John. Or Hillary who voted for the war. And so on. |

This clears things up enormously. You can spew racist nonsense for a decade or so, but as long as you don't mention it during the campaign, then all is hunky dory and should be forgotten.
Thank you for clarifying. |

| The story is now CNN.com's top story. I expect Ron Paul to withdraw from the race due to lack of support. But if it so happens that he is forced to withdraw even sooner because of this humiliating scandal, I would be quite pleased with that. Icing on the cake. |

So, are you one of the leftists who think the 1992 LA riots were some sort of people's insurrection? |

A disgusting hit piece and shows that the MSM is running scared. The implication that Paul is a racist is ridiculous and they know it. As he rightly says, racism is a collectivist idea and as such, is incompatable with a libertarian standpoint. Gergen is a Bohemian Grove attending scumbag. |

| Yep, that's going to hurt his campaign. The next conspiracy coming from the RP crowd is going to be that he didn't write them and that the Republican Party is doing this to discredit him. |

First, I believe it occurred spontaneously, and from below, as a response to the clearly unjust jury decision. "People's insurrection," however. That sounds more than a little propagandistic to me; I do not believe I talk or write that way. In any case, it implies political objectives which I doubt were present, at least among the majority. These rioters were merely angry and they expressed themselves violently. No more no less.
And, yes, given the egregiousness of LAPD's treatment of Rodney King, I find it hard not to sympathize with this anger.
Also, you are calling me a leftist? Most of the regular posters here must be having a laugh at that. |

I ask because I don't disagree with what was written about the L.A. riots in the snippet of Ron Paul's newsletter that you linked to.

My sympathy is entirely with Reginald Denny and others like him. If you don't recognize that name, you can Google it.
And here's a little-known fact: If you don't do PCP, don't recklessly endanger the lives of innocent people, pull over when law enforcement officials order you to, and in general, don't be a thug, then you won't get the Rodney King treatment. It's really simple enough for most people to understand and live by.

I knew that a large portion of Ron Paul's supporters didn't like the colored folks but am saddened to find out that he shares such views. Say it ain't so Ron! |
