Sorry if this has been posted before, but this story is nuts! Subway worker is hit by a subway train while taking a leak:

Quote:
A subway worker has died after being hit by an oncoming train. The employee was attending to the call of nature, leading to calls to improve the toilet situation for on-duty subway workers.

According to the statement of the Dongdaemun Police Department on the 10th, at approximately 2 pm on the 9th at Yongdu Station on line 2, employee Kim (39) was struck by a train heading towards Sinseoldong Station.

The conductor of the involved train, Lee (41), said to the police,150 meters after departing from Yongdu Station I saw Kim on the tracks and immediately attempted to stop the train, but I was unable to do so.

Police say their investigation is ongoing but it appears that Kim was using the tracks for a toilet after leaving the engine room, complaining to his co-workers of stomach pains.

Subway employees had predicted such a tragic accident. While working they must use the bathroom only every four hours rather than the two hour minimum. On line 2, where the accident occurred, employees cannot use the bathroom for two shifts totalling two hours and 54 minutes. Because of this many of them keep plastic bottles and newspaper kept in the engine rooms.

The Seoul Metro labor union pointed out, while there have been repeated calls for convenient bathrooms to be placed in the trains or on the platforms, the Metro has ignored them and this accident is the result.

Plastic bottles and newspaper?

I guess the translation could be clearer but actually, he was trying take a dump by leaning out the door and fell. It's not like he went right out into the middle of the tracks and dropped trou.

But it is still pretty crazy.

Thanks for clarifying. Trying to take a dump out of a window and falling out? That's pretty desperate...

I don't get the "going to the bathroom in public" thing... Today I was walking home and there was some ajoshi just standing there by the side of road, 5m away from a bus stop talking on his phone and taking a leak...

Mythbusters had the "peeing on the third rail" episode today, and that'll kill you too, if conditions are right!

Korean trains don't have a third rail. they have a wire at the top.

The Chosun Ilbo did a follow-up on this story that will have you thinking very different thoughts when your train stops in the middle of a tunnel.
