Hi, has anyone else heard of block time? AKA (consecutive hours worked without any gaps)? a company that called me, offered me a part time position. When I asked about the pay, he told me, because "it's block time" the pay is 30.000 per hour? WHAT? I'm wondering if this is just another way that these recruiters justify offering these low rates? As I'm sure that they do not offer the parents a special discount for "block time" Or has the rule of them been consecutive hours worked=lowe hourly wages? Thanks for your input. Have a great day!!

Sounds like something a lazy kindergarten teacher screams out upon entering class.

I have heard of block shift but not block time. Is it over a few hours? Like 3 classes (3 hours) block time meaning one right after another.....

yes, according to the recruiter, "block time" is when you are given work without any down time in between. so 2-6 would be 4 straight hours.
The thing that got me was, when he said, because you have block time, we only can pay you 30.000 per hour? An hour is an hour, yes? Just because you have no down time in between, it shouldn't mean you're worth less per hour you have worked? Seems like alot of places are practicing this habit? I was wondering if anyone else has heard of this or works consecutive hours at a "lower" rate? Thank you...

Plenty of jokers working for 20k an hour, with down time in between (public school). As long as they are going to pay you for a minimum number of classes per month, regardless of whether you teach them (public holidays, vacation), what's the problem?

30k an HOUR is still a bit low (unless it's a class hour: 40/50 mins), but if you're getting full benefits as well it's not so bad.

there are no benefits, no paid holidays, no nada! just 30k per hour (it's four consec hours for a part time gig). I'm just wondering how they came up with the formula "block time" and decided to dress it up a bit by paying 30k per hour just because there is no down time in between? Does this mean all part time positions that have no down time are paying out low wages and the, I would say, "f-series visa holders" taking them up on this offer? I wanted to know what others say to these job propsals other than, NO!
