I know, DD. When will the Iranians grow up and decide to create a civil and non-threatening society that provides equality for all of its people?

I also await that day, and will be very happy when it finally comes.

The US wasn't IN territorial waters!! What the hell are you talking about? Even the Iranians didn't make that claim.

You really need help.

Help? What kind of help?

Help in staging another phony Gulf Of Tonkin incident?

This is clearly what you insane neo-nazi cons would like to see happen.

Why so desperate?

Wingnut, now you're calling me a "neo-nazi con" because I don't see a conspiracy behind footage of Iranian a$$holes trying to start crap with US ships patrolling INTERNATIONAL waters (which most other Middle Eastern countries appreciate because they are worried about Iran making a move in the Strait of Hormuz)?!?!

Again, get some help. You really fucking need it. And take that sock TML with you.

They are clearly *beep* with the US ships in international waters, the US communicated back in a civil manner, and you can see the Iranian 'captain' wave the other Iranian boats into action at the end of the video and hear the boats power up.

Your video promotes the US position, not that of the Iranians.

Nice try. Thanks for playing.

I have to agree. IF, and I emphasize if until the news evolves to the point where both sides are showing GPS locations of the boat/ships, the Iranian boats were pursuing the Americans in international waters then that is serious cause for concern. On the video it looks like the Iranians got awfully close to the Americans.

What I don't understand is if that is the case, why did the Iranians do this?

As Yata-boy said before, there is likely a segment of the power structure within the Iranian government/military apparatus (take your pick as to which one) that is trying to maintain a state of animosity with the US. It serves their purposes.

Detente with the US would really screw things up for the current Iranian system.

Maybe that is the conspiracy theory you're looking for, IGTG? Unfortunately, it doesn't stem from the American side.

Shucks!!! Evil or Very Mad

That is a possibility. However, that's one of many possibilities. Another one is that the Iranian government has become enboldened by the NIE report and feels that it has called the American bluff, so to speak.

The other one I was considering was the possibility of the whole thing being an intellingence gathering manoeuvre by the Iranians. Maybe testing the reponse times of the American ships. After all, those powered boats can carry exodus missiles. If this is the case then the Iranians are serious poker players.

Whether or not its in INTL waters, having the US that close to Iranian shores is a low-level provocation in itself. If the we were experiencing the same thing with Chinese destroyers off the coast of LA, for example, it would be seen in a different light.

They were in international waters besides Iran has been out to get the US for a while and the US has relations with states in the gulf.

China has relations with Mexico; nevertheless, the US would be upset if Chinese cruisers were in int'l waters close to our borders. Also, I don't remember the Chinese installing a fascist monarchical puppet regime during the 50's after expelling the previous leader, as we did with Iran. The US has a history of meddling in Iranian affairs, regardless of how theocratic the government has been in the last 29 years. Iran is not Al-Qaeda, their actions have a strong correlation with the physical proximity of our military to their borders.
