Things seem unusually quiet on Dave's. Is this because people are not having problems complying with the new E-2 requirements? Are they giving up and leaving? Or something in between?

i don't think i'll stay for another year here. although i know i would be issued another E-2 visa no problem, all the red tape and the uncertainty of the job when u do come over, just doesn't make it worthwhile

I think it's red tape for people switching jobs, or starting for the first time.

Us renewal folks don't have it so tough.

I would suspect the number of "new" people coming here has crashed. Those with questionable backgrounds may not be renewed & some are just moving on to other things in life.

ESL in Korea will get smaller, and I hope it will become somewhat of a niche occupation for those who are more "suitable" for this country.

It's bollocks. I was definitely considering staying in Korea for yet another term (I passed my second year several months ago) but then this noise came up. No way. It's ridiculous and reactionary. I won't renew because my employer bites balls; allowing the visa system this new authority gives even MORE power to cr4ppy employers. No way, no how, not for less than 3.5 with a normal burden.

I am definitley not going to be begging to teach in korea. Lots of other places to teach in the worl d. The pay is not everything. The pay acutually sucks compared to what koreans make anyhow!!!!

I am in a waiting stage, but I guess its time.

I guess its my turn to say "enough is enough".

I wont say its guaranteed but Korea doesn't want me any longer and I am not sure any more its worth telling them why english teachers are useful.

If they really wanted to learn english then the english goals would not be impossible to achieve and those deciding what the goals are would be able to speak english and have an idea of what they expected the students to learn.

My school is in the process of replacing 3 teachers who are leaving the first of March and the biggest problem I'm having is getting clear information on the new guidelines and explaining the process. I must have read too many threads about conflicting information, but wording the official letters to be sent out is a giant pain. The other foreigners run the gamut of being completely ignorant and wanting to write "don't worry dude, we'll get you through, just don't smoke any pot at your going away party" to the other of "you better not be a stoner and wasting our time." Of course this could've all been sorted out in the interview, but I digress...

I'm considering that the best thing to do is simply to tell the applicant to be prepared for any number of tests and have a clean police report, otherwise go away.

As of now , Im almost finished the whole process . I had alot of trouble with conflicting info from both the consulate and my recruiter. Send this here and send this there , then the recruiter would tell me the opposite.
At one point someone ; from the consulate claimed they called me serveral times , yet couldnt get in touch with me. I then asked , why didnt you e mail me ...all I got was this cold silence.
Its been a head.
I have yet to fly to tornto for the interview , however , I know this will be a waste of time.

I'm going to be very unpopular and say hell no.

My sister required finger prints and visa interview just for a 3 month working visa to the states and she's from New Zealand. England requires working holiday people to come in for interviews for semi-permanent visas as well and this for a rich, white country.

Ever tried travelling with someone from a third world country into the US, NZ, UK, Can, Aus. etc even just for visit? Money, prints, sponsors, interviews.

If you are eligible for an E2 you are living in a fantasy land if you think you are hard-done by. We are very lucky to have it as easy as we did for so long.

Disclaimer: I have not received my visa, yet...

I have made the same comment before, but if you think this is tough, try to get a work AND study visa for Germany or some of the other EU countries. I had to submit to full medical test, background check, etc over 10 years ago. And I was even being sponsored by the German gov! I can only imagine it is even harder now, unless you want to do one of the ten or so allowed jobs, ie forestry, farm laborer, picking fruit and vegetables, etc.

This process has not been so bad, so far.

I won't even go into the process of getting a visa for a country you don't have diplomatic relations with or even an embassy...but YU was a beautiful country!

I'm more worried about the traffic ticket I got at age 22 showing up on my police record as some sort of crime that will keep me from getting a visa.

I ticked: "I extended or renewed my E-2 in Korea, no sweat", but the additional red tape did overly-complicate things.
