Rumors of NH vote-counting scandal fan flames of conspiracy
Part of the result from Tuesday's primary - that Hillary Clinton did better than Barack Obama in more densley populated areas of the state - has led to an Internet rumor that optical ballot-counting machines skewed the tally.
The rumor made it to the popular site Slashdot.org today, which has a history of driving so much Internet traffic that it can crash computers.
The argument is that Clinton did notably better in precincts with machine-counted ballots, while Obama did notably better in precincts with hand-counted ballots. Because New Hampshire's optical counters are made by Diebold, which makes much-criticized electronic voting machines, this has fueled rumors the results were the result of, in the words of Slashdot's headline, "Diebold fraud".
However, only the smallest communities (such as Lyndeborough and Mont Vernon) still hand-count ballots, so this difference could also be explained by a difference in voter preferences between more rural and more urban voters.

That is if they're not too pre-occupied with the latest in the life of Britney

Thu Jan 10, 11:15 PM ET

The Ohio congressman cited "serious and credible reports, allegations and rumors" about the integrity of Tuesday results.
Deputy Secretary of State David Scanlan said Kucinich is entitled to a statewide recount. But, under New Hampshire law, Kucinich will have to pay for it.
Scanlan said he had "every confidence" the results are accurate
