So, youve gone through the new visa requirements for the E-2, and been tested for HIV. Now, what if you have a positive result for HIV? Does the South Korean government offer any form of counseling?
There will be some that are going to get a very unpleasant surprise, and its going to be extra rough on those.
Losing your job, being sent home and being offered no form of counseling is really a bit much.

I have an idea.
Get tested at home before you come.
Wow. Rocket science. |

Geez. You're basically at most a day away from being home. Even in this scenario, I don't think one day of missed counseling will be significant.
If you want help, you could always take it upon yourself to go see a shrink.
I think the trolls on this board also make this place *sparkling* sometimes... |

No trolling here.
I guess they would be pretty quick putting someone on a plane back home and they'll probably pay for it.
As for getting tested back home, there are still many who are tested here and I don't think Korea is prepared to offer any sort of counseling, and this is important. Will the results be kept confidential? If they are going to test, then they should offer counseling.
Another question: What if the test was a false positive? This does happen. |

supernick,
if you are concerned about a positive result just get tested back home. You can have all the privacy and counselling you want. |

I've been tested a couple of times and I'm not worried for myself. I have a concern about others who are presently in Korea. The tests are for E-2 and for EPIK teachers and I'm neither. I am thnkful that when I was tested there was pre-counseling in case of a positive result.
I just think that if they are going to test for HIV, they should have some sort of counseling. There will be some with a positive test result and being away from home, family and close friends is going to be a tough pill. |

In the thread that just got locked 2 days ago, titled "I contracted HIV," the OP said once the government found out, he was on the next plane out of her by force. |

Okay, they'll counsel you. Then they'll kick you out. BUT you will be counseled first.

Who in their right mind would want counseling from a Korean shrink? You've got to be kidding me!
Hypothetical senario:
You: Doctor, I have HIV. I'm losing my job. I don't know what to do [crying your eyes out].
Doctor: hmmmm [long pause], that's bad. You go home?
You: Yes [still crying], I'm so upset.
Doctor: ahhh, okay, you go home. Pay girl at desk now. okay. bye bye. [smiling]. |

oh come on. You STILL believe that troll was on the up and up? He went to a prom in the UK? He was a 27 year old virgin in Korea who loved a prostitute and didn't use a condom? His details where "sketchy." |

I don't know if he was a troll or not. Yet I would completely believe that the Korean government will kick out a foreigner as fast as possible if they find out the foreigner has HIV or AIDS. |

I've been tested for HIV at least four times. I have never rec'd pre-counseling. Once, I didn't even know I was going to be tested (that was here in Korea).
I say "at least" because I used to do volunteer work for an AIDS org and got spit tested sometimes, but I never paid attention to the number of times. |

I think most countries would be pretty quick deporting a non-citizen if they knew he/she had aids.
I believe the USA won't let foreigners, with aids, into the country. I'm not sure about Canada's policy though. |
