Hi guys,
I'm a bit worried because a friend of mine who is also applying to teach in Korea, was told at our local police station that the check I got is not valid for my purpose.
I filled in a form at the police station and showed my passport and drivers license. It took 40 days and I got back a document form the National identification Service at New Scotland Yard.
It has 2 blue bands stating "National Identification Service Authentic Document"
It states:
---------------------------------------------
In reply to your request for info held by Humberside Police on computers in the following categories: -
Person Record: Prosecution/Conviction
From the personal details supplied in your request there is no info held about you in the Person Record category of the Police National Computer.
-------------------------------------------------
Is this okay or is their another type of check needed?
Thanks in advance. |

As far as we know, the Subject Access check (the check you have) will be sufficient for Korean immigration.
The Police told you that it will not be suitable for what you need it for because generally the SA check is for your eyes only. It is to see what, if any, info is held on you on the PNC as part of your rights under the Data Protection Act.
In the UK you would never have to show this to an employer. If you were asked to have a background check the employer would carry this out, not you.
There is already another (long) thread about this on the first few pages of the Job Discussion forum. |

im in a similar situation, i called the korean embassy in london and there exact word were, "subject access" request is fine. the other check that the police were most likely reffering to is a crb check, but these can be around about 50 i think. i called my police HQ again and asked for extra copies of it, in case i send it off and change my mind about a job i can keep applying. it costs a tenner per copy and you can pay over the phone.
if you was not aware how to get it notaraised, you have to either take it to the foreign office or send it. its 27 apparently see this link
